Ulsan is a fast-growing city in South Korea with a population of around 1.2 million. The city has been attracting more and more tourists, investors, as well as young professionals and students seeking employment and education in South Korea. If you want to live and work in Ulsan, it will not be too hard to find a suitable position.

The economy of Ulsan

The city of Ulsan is known to be a fast-developing region with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of over $67 billion in 2017. Its economy is based mainly on shipbuilding, the automobile industry, petrochemicals and the production of amethysts.

Over the years, many companies and industries have moved to the region, including an oil refinery, industries producing fertilisers, steel and heavy industries. Ulsan attracts a wide range of investors due to its industrial position in South Korea.

Fishing in Ulsan also plays an important role regarding the contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the whole country. Also, the city is the birthplace of Hyundai or Hyundai Motors as well as Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Hyundai in Ulsan

Since 1962, the world-famous conglomerate Hyundai has its headquarters in Ulsan. This is also the reason for a healthy job market in the region with thousands of people being employed by Hyundai. On top of that, Hyundai operates the largest automobile assembly plant in the world and the largest shipyard in the world in Ulsan. The assembly plant produces over 1.6 million cars a year. Hyundai Heavy Industries employs over 25,000 at its location in Ulsan. The company also has more than 72 distributors in over 20 countries worldwide.

Living in Ulsan

The city of Ulsan is known for its mountainous scenery and rivers, not to mention its beautiful beaches, Jinha, Jeongja, and Jujeon. The city also boasts national parks, museums, the Center for Arts and Culture Ulsan, as well as countless department stores and shopping centres. Therefore, Ulsan is a major tourist destination, which has led to a variety of luxury hotels and resorts in the area. Taehwagang River Grand Park in Ulsan's downtown area is amongst its most popular tourist destinations as it boasts a large bamboo forest with a variety of different plant species. Just south of Ulsan, Ganjeolgot is a popular coastal park. The park is the easternmost part of the Korean Peninsula making it the first location for the sun to rise in the country. The location is a popular destination for the New Year's Day.

Job-hunting in Ulsan

If you have experience in the automotive, petrochemical or shipbuilding sectors, you can send an application to companies operating in the region. It is also possible to find a job in Ulsan in the education or tourism fields, for example.
