Whether you are heading to work or planning to go shopping, there are several means of transportation for your daily needs. Most travel passes are valid for several of the transportation modes including the ferry lines. 

Stockholm's SL transport system

Stockholm Public Transport, also known as SL, is the company in charge of Stockholm's extensive transportation system. The company has made it easy for commuters to and travel around easily in the Greater Stockholm area.

Luggage and prams for children are permitted on all modes of transport without charge, although bicycles are generally not allowed.

Subway (T-bana, or Tunnelbana)

Bus lines

Train

The city's train network that extends from Stockholm to other areas of the country is also controlled by SL. The Stockholm Commuter Rail is known as the 'pendeltåg' in Swedish. Tickets must be bought before boarding.

Ticketing

Tickets are available for purchase at SL centres and online through several websites and mobile apps. However, tickets cannot be bought with cash, so always buy a ticket before travelling. Tickets are valid for all types of transportation.

Taking a taxi

The taxi companies of Stockholm charge various pre-established fees. Although a convenient means of transport that can be booked in advance, taxis in the city are expensive. It is advised to check prices before taking a taxi journey. There is usually a public transportation option for most routes.

Travelling to and from the airport

Arlanda (ARN) is Stockholm's main airport and offers domestic and international flights. The city also has a second airport, Bromma Airport (BMA). Travelling between the airport and the city couldn't be easier; there is an express train, commuter trains, airport buses and taxis.

The is twice as fast but more expensive than regular trains with travel times of around 45 minutes to reach the city. The express airport bus can be booked on the site.
