UPDATE [10/11/21] Covid wreaked havoc on my global travels. Consequently, I left Manila in Feb 2020 and have been in the US since then. I’ve visited Costa Rica twice during 2021 and will return again in a couple of weeks for a deeper immersion thru early 2022. UPDATE [04/10/15] Traveling again; currently in HCMC in transit to Phu Quoc and then DaNang. UPDATE: [07/05/2015] Temporarily back in the USA for post-injury rehabilitation and am most anxious to resume life & travel in VN!! UPDATE [13/04/2015] Delighted to say these words:"I am an expat now living in the Ba Dinh District of Hanoi and could not be more elated!" **£*** For the past couple of months & for the indefinite future, I am traveling SE Asia once again. The objective during this third trip is to determine where I will settle as an expat. Vietnam is at the top of the pyramid! I could retire, volunteer or work. My preference is the latter. Just cannot imagine the low intensity of lounging around after so many years of the fruitful grind. My 30+ year tenure as a Tennessee trial attorney may be helpful to some, I'd think, whether through teaching or consulting. I have the liberty to ruminate about that topic and learn from others too. This forum has been very helpful to me while stateside and abroad. Good job! On my way to Hanoi tomorrow, 21 Feb. Enjoy TET times to all.

Newly retired attorney; woodturning has become my main hobby during the covid era; still travel and Bangkok is my current focus. I will return during March 2023 on a long stay visa.
It feels like home but without the disunity in the US. The people are wonderful, accepting. Thailand is indeed enchanting. My belief system is consistent with the Buddhist culture of Thailand.

Manila is my hub as I travel around the islands.
I am just settling in at my new abode in Hanoi. Still undecided about business consulting to American businesses and individuals exploring SE Asia as a market; continuing my law work in his country or getting certified to become a teacher of English in the corporate setting. Not really feeling the need to rush into anything.
Hanoi is charming, modern and less chaotic than other areas I have visited. I love it's rich history and find myself immersing in it too.
A few bad economic experiences of everyday life that have been a catalyst for guardedness.
