Learnt to be trailing spouse after 20 years of work in the oil and gas industry. Discovered the simple pleasures in life, like a stroll along the Ural river on summer mornings or a bike ride in the Kazakh steppe.
Wonderful expat community that allowed me to make many friends. Safe location so I enjoyed plenty of walking and my kids discovered the delights associated with playing outdoors without worrying about traffic or other safety concerns. Great opportunity to learn another language and to practice it whilst shopping for fruit and veges at the markets.
Very cold winters. Shopping for food was more like a hunting expedition as was difficult to find all products you needed in the same store, but have noticed that, was getting better and could find greater western variety of products in supermarkets.
