My wife and I are from Northern California and are interested in living in Central and South America. We're not interested in buying property, we would rather rent long term in interesting places and move around as we get the urge.
I joined expat.com on 02 June 2016.
I retired in 2016 and lived in Placencia Belize Sept 2016 -April 2017. Since moving back my wife and I have mostly worked renovating our Northern California home. We did take a month off to take a motorcycle trip up the pacific coast to British Columbia and east to see friends in Saskatchewan. We will be returning to the road next spring, probably Canada for a few months then to Domenica or one of the cayes in Belize for six months. We enjoy experiencing other cultures and living somewhat like the locals. I find expats generally are more interesting than most people due to having lots of experiences outside of the ordinary. We don't want to live in an expats only area, but dirt floors are not what we look for either. Hot water and a decent kitchen, walking distance to good markets. I don't want a car, so cheap alternatives are important. I've ridden the "chicken buses" in Belize and kind of enjoyed them except for terminals.
Laid back lifestyle, climate, people, nature, outdoor experiences, beaches and mountains.
Bugs, cruise ships.
