Has anyone had delivery problems from online purchases such as Amazon or other places? Do things usually arrive without problems? Have you had anything taken in customs or by post office? Which shipping company is best to deal with to receive ...

There were about eight books in all and they were brought to my door by the delivery guy. I had to pay about 160 EGP taxes for them. This was by DHL,though. I had heard dreadful things about the postal system here, but since February I have ... Read More

Cost of living verification by trvlingrl

Hi Everyone, I have been reading your posts and they have proven most helpful. I will hopefully be joining you this summer. I found this website: tefl.com which gives an estimate of the cost of living in Cairo. I was wondering if someone could ...

Most of the prices seem about right, although I think you will have to search hard to find acommodation at that price. In El Rehab City for example 2 beds go for about $800-1000 and in Maadi about the same. I would also disagree with clothes prices. ... Read More

dogs in cairo by vfincher

I am debating about bringing my dog to Cairo. I know my dog will keep me from being lonely, but I like to travel. Are there any pet sitting services in Cairo? Are pet friendly apartments available?

Wadi Degla is a desert area,an open area, where many people go hiking. It's the perfect place for letting a dog have a good run and only 10 mins from Maadi. Read More

There are plenty of houses on the market for rent with gardens, depending on how much you are prepared to pay. In areas where expats live landlords seem to take it for granted that their tenants will have pets.Cairo, however, is not the best place ... Read More

Are you living in Egypt? We need you to share your experience of the local customs :) Is it difficult to adjust to the local customs in Egypt? Could you please share with us a list of the do's and don't's in Egypt? Thanks!

Are you insinuating that women who do not cover themselves should be targets for sexual abuse. Women dress nicely and wear perfume for their own pleasure. I would never dream of dressing for a man's enjoyment or titillation. I respect the fact that ... Read More

I am hoping to find American grocery items somewhere in Cairo. Specifically, I am looking for chocolate chips, brown sugar, canned pumpkin, canned cranberry sauce, baking powder, baking soda, buttermilk, etc. Does anyone know if -- and where -- ...

I always assumed labneh was buttermilk because it seems to work really well in recipes that need it. Didn't know about lemon juice and milk, though. I love labneh really cold mixed with fruit juice, too. Read More

Isn't buttermilk the same as labneh, in Arabic. I'm English and we don't really use buttermilk, but many of the American cake recipes I use call far buttermilk and I use labneh, which is available in all supermarkets. Miriam market has a lot of ... Read More
