I am from Michigan but have lived in Santiago Dominican Republic for two years back in 1989 - 1990 as a Christian missionary. I married my wife Yngris in the DR then and we now live in Michigan. Now we are seriously thinking about retiring (Re-firing!) back in the Dominican republic. We love the people, food, beach, tropical weather and even though I am from Michigan and I can't stand the freezing cold winters with all the snow and ice. I would rather live somewhere warm like the DR. I joined ex-pat.com to connect with some ex-pats in DR just to get a feel for how things are going and if anyone is living or retired there would like to share their experience / advice about retiring in DR. As I write I'm 57 years old and have 4 more years before retiring at 62. I know that in Santiago there have been some substantial new developments with a new Airport and Hospital as well. We own an apartment in Santiago and have family and friends in that city. My wife Yngris and I have been back for vacations frequently and keep talking about possibly retiring there some day the Lord willing. Be glad to hear from anyone there. Best way to connect now is by I believe the Expat website or by email nickboork@gmail.com or Facebook Messenger https://www.facebook.com/nick.boork
I joined expat.com on 11 February 2018.

The friendly people, happy culture, great food, topical weather, beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving. My wife Yngris is a national Dominican. Will more than likely return and retire in the DR.
Power used to go out all the time so I bought a generator, no problem.
