Maria Luisa de Castro is the Director of the CostaLuz Lawyers team. Born in 1973, she is married with two children, Teresa (12 years) and Jacobo (10 years). From 1990-1995, she attended Law School at the University of Seville, and completed a Doctorate in Constitutional Law between 1995 and 1997 before embarking on a professional law career. In 2000, María visited the United States for the first time, to work with David Coolidge as part of an interdisciplinary programme in Family Law in Washington DC. She is a Blackstone Fellow, a Witherspoon Fellow and a John Jay Institute Alumna in the USA. María stayed in Washington until August 2001 and was just about to be hired and start working under Davids wonderful mentorship when he was diagnosed with brain cancer and sadly died within 9 months. Following this painful loss of a mentor, colleague and personal friend, María returned to Spain where she started working as a lawyer alongside her brothers Jaime and Ignacio de Castro in the law firm De Castro Gabinete Juridico, which her father, Jaime Castro had founded in 1988. The firm has a great deal of experience in all aspects of civil law, commercial law, administrative law, family law, maritime law, and criminal law. The firms litigation specialists are now used by Marías own legal firm, Costa Luz Lawyers, as her litigation team. This allows her to devote all of her time to provide a client legal information service and to write legal articles and information booklets for English speaking people in Spain. María completed her MA at the University of Navarre from 2002 to 2004. Her wedding to Luis, a video editor and a blogger on Eye on Spain, took place in Grazalema in September 2004. Following several years of fighting against property developers and banks for the rights of off-plan property buyers in Spain, her efforts are now focused on attracting foreigners to come to Spain, whether to live, to work, to set up a business or to retire. Relocation Services including conveyancing and legal work to enhance the commercial prospects for international companies in Andalucía, especially in the Province of Cadiz. Since 2006, María has also been a regular contributor on the internet forum Eye on Spain, for which she also writes a Blog.
