Hello. :) I'm an American living in Houston, Texas with a goal of living abroad and immersing myself and family into a new culture.
I joined expat.com on 26 September 2011.
I liked the culture and feel of Dublin. The city is not too large and is just the right size. I also liked the easy access to the mountains and water. Cork was smaller but enjoyable as well. I found the people of Ireland to be friendly and helpful.
Though I don't have experience with this because we rented a car, I heard that public transportation is unreliable. I did see bike lanes/bus lanes intermingled as one, which made for a dangerous situation.
Houston is full of so many different cultures. The diversity is amazing. Because of this, you can meet and experience so many different people and ways of life, as well is the many cuisines.
Though Houston is the 4th largest city in the U.S., it is the only one in the top 5 that does not have a major rail system for commuting. It is a sprawling city, and residents in and around Houston would benefit greatly from rail transit. The lack of it makes for long daily commutes by car and of course horrible traffic.
