I moved to Belize in January of 2012, applied for and got my work permit in 5 weeks (which I hear is a bit of a record), got my social security card and now I am working on my residency. I am working as a RE/MAX sales representative, showcasing the Toledo District in Belize. I am also the editor (1 edition under my belt) of the BTIA Toledo tourism paper, The Howler.

For many years I have wanted to move to a tropical location. After much research, Belize was the destination of choice and now my dream is becoming a reality.
As a member of the British Commonwealth the official language of the country is English - this makes integration into a new culture somewhat easier.
I live here with my husband, my dog Buster and my adopted dog Funny Face. We are working on making our property more functional, and more beautiful. We have good friends, the sea is close and we just enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle, overall. I was in Punta Gorda previously but just found it was too far out of the way for what I need to do.
I love that it is centrally located in the country. 1.5 hours to Belmopan for government type tasks, 1 hour from Placencia and the peninsula with gambling, beaches, shopping, fishing and more. Hopkins has its own charm with the friendly people, the laid back nature. Maya Centre is nearby with Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve, hiking, there is river tubing, ziplining, caving, horseback riding, all within a few minutes of Hopkins.
Sometimes the laid back nature is too laid back. Right now doesn't mean right now. Appointments with people are often either not kept or are kept late. Grocery stores sell what they want not what people want.
