My husband and I have been married for 32 years and reside two miles outside of the small resort beach town of Ocean City, Maryland. My husband works for the town public works department and I have been spending the last few months trying to get going on freelance writing and photography. Like many others, we lost quite a bit of money in real estate in the last few years and have started thinking about how and when we will be able to retire. We are very quite people who like simple things and we are parents to three canine children who we adore. I belive both my husband and I are up to a new and exciting challenge. I was born in Washington, DC and he was born in Cambodia. His life story is quite interesting. We are both in good physical condition and still want to enjoy the simplicity of exploring a new country and surroundings. My husband loves a hot humid climate but I would prefer a cooler climate to live and enjoy the hot humidness when exploring or at the beach. I like what I have read about Boquete but I am concened at real estate prices that seem to be rising too quickly and I fear that the influx will drive up prices overall where it just won't be affordable in a couple of years when we could make a permanent move. We will hopefully get to make a visit there in the coming months. I was wondering if anyone knows of a location similar to Boquete, not too far from David, with less inflated home prices? We are also looking at Ecuador, but it seems like it may not be as safe for expats. Of course, medical care is also important. I do have a background in real estate and property management that could perhaps make it possible to earn an income there but I know that it is difficult to get a work permit. This would allow us to make a move sooner. We are really ready to part company with life in the US and we will do so with "eyes wide open". I welcome any feedback or advice.
