I was bomrn and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. I've lived in California, Texas and near Washington, DC, but returned to my home area after realizing its beauty (and realizing also the value of being close to my family). My first degree is a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, and I've practiced nursing as a Registered Nurse for about almost 30 years now (hard to believe it's been that long). I have never regretted that career, but decided to get certified to teach English to speaker of other languages in January, 2011. I travelled all the way to Istanbul, Turkey to study under the Via Lingua program there, a 4-week intensive program of study and student teaching. Of course, I could have gotten my certificate in many countries around the world and continued teaching in one of those countries (or in Turkey, as the case was), but my mother got very sick, and I returned home, thankfully, before she died. I am currently work part-time as an RN Supervisor in a retirement community, and gratefully, I am teaching some of our foreign staff English (actually, they can speak some degree of English, and just need improvement in speaking, writing, hearing or reading skills, so I help them with this). Right now I'm checking Hungary, but have other European destinations in mind for teaching as well. I may want to supplement my income with a Nursing job, as I realize many of the teaching English jobs are not the best paying.
