Ecuatorian/American cultural differences by Lehnertm1980
Hi! I am an American and my fiance is Ecuatorian. He and I have had MANY relationship conflicts in our past here in los Estados Unidos, and I am worried that those differences we'll be much more extreme there in Ecuador. Mostly, we just don't ...
I could have said some things bad about Ecuador. I rented a house in a very nice neighborhood. One night, about 9 pm, I wanted to go out, but I couldn´t get a taxi by phone. The taxi stand is only two blocks away, so I thought I´d walk. Three guys ... Read More

I haven´t had much time to do much sight-seeing here. I haven´t gotten out of Quito, yet. But Quito is a great city. I love the central historic region, it´s narrow cobble-stoned streets, the constant activity of the sidewalk shops, and there´s no ... Read More

I have been living in Quito for the last month. Prior to that I was in Paraguay for six months. Learning to speak Spanish, and getting to know a different culture, and to meet people who have been raised in a different culture and think ... Read More
Going back to America, Too big of a cultural shock by Yanapana
Hello Expats, I wonder if you know of anyone who has come to live in Ecuador and has decided to return to the States because it was too difficult to adjust to the change. We are going through that right now. It seems like everyone living in Ecuador ...
I can´t really comment about Ecuador, but I just returned to the US a couple of weeks ago from Paraguay. I´m ready to go to Ecuador ASAP. Everybody is the US is too angry, regardless of whether they are liberal or conservative, rich or poor. It´s ... Read More
Multiple Entry Visa Changes by Zollie
It came time to make my quick trip to renew my Multiple Entry Visa today, and I was in for a big surprise. I crossed the bridge from Asuncion and went to Argentina, ate lunch, and headed back. When I got to Immigration for Paraguay, there was a big ...
I would hope the same thing. I was told that the changes in tourist visa requirements were directed at Bolivians. How true this is, I don´t know. I think it would be reasonable to expect that Residency Requirements could change depending on how ... Read More

In all seriousness, this whole issue revolves around several factors, but it illustrates the difficulty different cultures, and nations, have in understanding and communicating with each other. Not as a response to this particular incident, but ... Read More

Tom, you mentioned the Tea Party. One thing´s for sure for me, if that group takes over, I may not live in PY, but I won´t be living in the US. Read More

If any further proof were necessary, PY is an example, as is the US, that the "trickle down" theory doesn`t work.... Read More

To change the subject, but to pick up on something you said, about the informal economy. The huge informal economy here, in my view, seriously distorts the difference in the cost of living between Paraguay and the US. Supposedly it is much cheaper ... Read More
experience with private health insurance? by wilf1
Has anyone got experience with private health insurance? Are there any? What clinics do they cover? Is dental care included? I've lived in Argentina before, all health services are free just like in Wales, but you have to pay the dentist ...
Does one have to have residency status to get health insurance here? I´m assuming that to be the case, but crossing my fingers it is not. Read More
Motorcycles in Paraguay. by BillFromEngland
Hi, I´m travelling to Paraguay from Rio in the next couple of weeks. I have ridden my motorcycle from the USA, and will need to sell it in Paraguay when I get there. Is that a problem there? I know that it is not possible to import used bikes into ...
I also think that what are called Flex vehicles, that can burn gasoline or ethanol, are exempt from the 30% tax. I didn´t know ethanol was available here, but I guess it helps to make Paraguay look like it is concerned about the environment. Read More

PROBLEMS YOU FIND MOVING HERE by Jfinestra
Being a Paraguayan citizen, I find really easy to move around here, but I am interested to know what are the more common problems foreigners find when moving to Py.
No, I´m not interested in buying property in Latin American. I´m not anywhere close to wanting to live somewhere on a permanent basis. Unless it were a sailboat. yesterday´s over my shoulder, so I can´t look backwards too long... there´s too much ... Read More
