Hi I'am a well travelled Brit Having spent 20+ years with the British Military 24 addresses in 28 years, including 2 years in Belize. Of all the places we have lived Belize is the one that captured the hearts of my family. We have returned on vacation Most years since staying with friends in Cayo and exploring the rest of the country. We are now resident in California for the last 11 years and coming up to retirement. We have investigating the pros and cons of the Belize retirement scheme and l have just purchased a property for that purpose. Ny younger son has been renting in Belize now since august 2013 so when we put our initial wooden house on the property he will be living in it full time so on site for when we start to build our forever house. We fully intended to buy a property with a house in situ but after trying to purchase 3 different places unsuccesfully due to wierd sellers, the guy who refused out=r offer at full asking price to later get back to us to say the price was now nearly 70% higher, untitled places seller will sort that out after we buy, and a lively place which sadly we could not agree terms to suit both us and seller. We decided to buy land and build the dream. hopefully we will have something to live in when we move down on a semi permanent basis in 18 months time and within 3 or 4 years have our dream home and farm. We ended up with 27 acres which is a lot of space just for a house even with wanting to leave the 8 acres of jungle untouched. It is a fantastic location near to Belmopan, so all the convenience of the city without the inconvenience of living in the city.
I joined expat.com on 11 August 2013.
Retired in o enjoy Belize life.
Own my piece of the jewel
Poor roads, only basic medical cover available but I love it anyway.
Owned business
The Bay Area of CA is wonderful
Rediculous property market.
I was born in uk but my adult life was spent in many countries as a member of the British military, then later as a spouse.
I always loved moving to new countries, being able to live properly in a foriegn country not just for vacations.
Well if you know there is a time limit to how long you are going to be in any location, it is easier and pleasanter to look for the best parts and just cope with the rest. Moaning about things you can't change is not productive, moaning about things you can change is ridiculous as you can change it.
