Greetings! I was born in Bonn, West Germany (at the time), to an American father who grew up in Germany and to a German mother who grew up in Australia. I took Australian citizenship by default, since my Dad hadn't lived long enough in America for me to take German citizenship. My family immigrated to Pasadena (Los Angeles), California, when I was 3, in 1983. We returned every year to central Europe to visit family. We moved from California to Minnesota when I was 10. Two years later my Dad moved back to Europe. He's since settled outside of Chur, Switzerland, to teach cross-cultural management at the University of Chur and other schools. After graduating with my BA in psychology from the University of Minnesota, I left Minneapolis to live in Australia when I was 22. I returned to Minnesota 1 year later, did a Master's degree in Marriage and Family therapy, moved to Chicago for a year to mentor with a Master Therapist (2008), then moved back to Southern California from 2009-2010 to work as a clinical social worker. My wife Amanda and I then moved to Northern California for me to complete a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology at Sofia University in 2010. I'm currently on pace to complete the program by June 2014. During my PhD I began to study the transpersonal dimensions of culture shock. I've since moved to Glasgow, Scotland, where my wife Amanda is attending a veterinary science medical degree program. I've now graduated with my PhD after concluding a dissertation project on the effects of an ancient mirror-meditation process on culture shock in business sojourners and expatriates. In Glasgow city centre, in a private practice setting I'm offering a confidential psychological counselling service to expats to Scotland: see: http://55degreesnorth.iblog.com/ . . . and I'm also looking for additional work opportunities in psychological services, teaching psychology, and conducting psychological research. I offer an eclectic personal and professional background, a sense of humor, personal dynamism, and leadership skills. see: uk.linkedin.com/in/samuelrootphd/ Looking forward to your contact, Samuel Root, PhD, CPsychol
