Whats it like to live in Jakarta Pluit?

I have not made any decisions yet, but I am approaching the age where early retirement starts to become an option.

My impression is, that furnished apartments are affordable in that area.

The saying is, that Jakarta Bay is sinking.

How does it impact the people who are living there?

Fred

It depends, but I would think  carefully about a move into any area close to, or within, a place that has seen tidal flooding.

Much of Jakarta, a city built on what was marshland, is sinking fast due to overextraction of groundwater, and sea levels are on the rise because of the climate mess.

One has to ask what you are looking for, and if there are other places that might suit you better.

Are there people you would like to be near?

Are there any particular facilities you want or need?

Do you prefer hot or cooler weather?

Would you prefer a city, town, or village?

Jakarta has its charms, and facilities available in the city are amongst the  best in Indonesia, but it also has terrible traffic and a notable pollution problem as well as the fact the government are getting out - that should tell you something.

I thought that the planned relocation to Kalimantan was now in the balance?

I’m currently in Bandung where it’s possible to walk ( something I love doing) without breaking into a sweat. Apparently the new high speed rail line is due for completion next year reducing the Jakarta commute to 1 hour.

The relocation of Ibu Kota is well and truly in motion. Given the presidential palace gets flooded from time to time, I can see their point.

Bandung is definitely a place to consider (It will be high on my list of places to retire to). Bogor is also a possibility.
