For doing a visa run for how many days should one exit from Vietnam before entering again.
It will be my first time.
Thank you in advance.

If you have your new visa before departure, you just need to exit and immediately reenter.
If you don't have your new Visa, you should probably plan at least 7 calendar days (5 business days) for your new visa to be approved.
Allowing for 10 calendar days or even two weeks would be safest.
Just to be clear...because it bears repeating: your sources are saying that as of now our online immigration record will have to indicate that we have exited Vietnam before an accurately completed visa application is processed and potentially approved.    -@redislandar
Not sure which member you are replying to, redislandar, but if it's me I humbly submit that my only sources are expat.com member reports, and (the rare) gov't policy releases.
That's essentially what Aidan has been saying.    -@OceanBeach92107
Well, not quite. What I said was an immigration officer reviewing an application will know whether the applicant has, or hasn't, exited VN. I've a sneaking suspicion that we are going to hear conflicting reports from members with some successfully applying from within VN, and others not. Just a hunch, if you will. In any event, my advice on not falsifying information on the eVisa application stands.
As mentioned earlier in this thread by goodolboy, "... (in Vietnam)whats the law today can be history tomorrow".

OceanBeach, thank you.
I have spouse visa which requires me to exit after 180 days.
I have an old 5 years exemption visa.
Please advise.
hello everyone , I'm traveling to Vietnam in a week time to open a company can someone recommend a good agent that can help me with the process? thanks
......for anyone who's country is on the 45 days Visa Exempt & try it back to back (I have 2 x 45 days visa exempt's under my belt) but not back to back so not sure how that would work & how immigration would look at that...    -@goodolboy
I don't believe you'd have a problem.

"3. Abolishing the regulation that “the interval between the entry date and the previous exit date must be at least 30 days" to facilitate foreigners entering Vietnam on unilateral visa exemption, then going to a third country and returning to Vietnam to continue their travel."
Though "Law No. 51" is a bit dated, I've heard/read no reports from members who've done 45 day visa exempt border runs having any trouble.

With a 5 Year VISA EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE you can reenter the country immediately after exiting.
No waiting period required.

Thank you very much for the clarification.
Best to you.
Discussion with my visa agent in HCMC this morning,
I have heard that e-visas can not be issued while I am in Vietnam. If this is correct, can I give you changes to my passport and travel dates/times for a new visa and them contact you when I am out of Vietnam? This would reduce the time before a new visa is issued.
yes, that's correct
you can send us the details and make payment in advance, then let me know once you left VN then we will apply for you.
So 3-5 day holidays in another country look like it's going to be the norm for the foreseeable future.
A retirement visa in Vietnam would be wonderful

Hello Safepeter, dont suppose you asked if they would do a fast track application? Like leave on the morning & come back next day evening or something like that.
As a matter of interest & looking to the future & flying out I have been checking Vietjet one way there & one way back to Thailand & flying to BKK has gone up a lot but Chaing Mai for about 75 usd each way which is doable & hotels are quite reasonable at Chaing MaiÂ
I have an update from my long time & trusted visa agent, please see bold below. So with a bit of luck & planning it could mean only max of 2 days out of Vietnam.
the price at the moment is $100
we submit before 2pm and will get the result by the evening of the following day
@Aidan in HCMC I was replying to goodolboy's post regarding his visa run on Saturday. I think all of us are basically saying the same thing. That's why sometimes it bears repeating. That's why sometimes, in the absence of info, we make every effort to consider what is potentially right or wrong. Not easy since, as you say, info/policies are often a moving target. As long as I am responsible for my own visa...in the future I will not rely on the possibility that my application might be approved while I'm in country. Planned vacations will essentially be my strategy on a go forward basis. That's just me. Each to their own.

No GOB I didn't ask about fast-tracking the application. As you say the hotel prices in Chiang Mai are quite reasonable so maybe 3-5 days kicking back and enjoying a cold Chang with Thai food can be quite relaxing, though more expensive than here.
But all-in-all the challenge to get a new visa equates to 2 flights, hotel fees, and still paying rent in Vietnam. That's money I would much prefer to spend in Vietnam than somewhere else.
