Post-Covid-19 situation in Mexico

Post new topic

Mickael

Hello everyone,

The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on the world, including on expats' lives. Travel restrictions, business closures, budget cuts, and health measures have created unprecedented challenges for those who have chosen to live in Mexico.

Now that the pandemic is moderated, expats are adjusting to a new daily routine. So tell us, how is your expat life now:

Are there still any health measures in place in Mexico? If so, what are they (wearing a mask, barrier measures, etc.)?

Have you noticed any changes in the population's habits or behavior after the pandemic?

What is your new work rhythm: do you still work remotely or are you spending more time in the office?

Have you changed your spending habits? If so, which ones?

Despite this pandemic and its consequences, how do you see your future in Mexico?

Do you have any advice for other expats and future expats on this new daily life in Mexico?

Thank you for your contribution.

I am an elderly woman from California , U.S., living half the year in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This is a highly touristed town filled with snowbirds both young and old from the north. These are the people who crowd and bump sometimes almost touching each other on the streets, restaurants and shops without masking, hand sanitizing etc.The local shopkeepers and restaurant workers in contrast  have been entirely conscious of observing precautionary measures.

Here in the lake chapala area things are back to normal.  None of the restaurants or stores I visit use masks. The only masks I see are on x pats who wear them in a car with just themselves in it. Or the few xpats who wear a mask on a beautiful day walking down the street.

It's over far all but those few xpats who I guess won't ever stop being afraid.  It's there right to wear masks till the end of time if they want. But the locals and the vast majority of x pats here are past covid and living our lives again.

One local lake xpat board they took down the covid board and then had to ban talking about covid because a small group of fear mongers were still pushing fear. The other local board is now where those few fear porn salesman are now  cussing and insulting anyone who says it's over. It's actually quite funny to see those who now can't give up the fear of covid and go back to enjoying life.

You say it's their right to wear masks and then you ridicule them.  Why do you care what other people do?  Typical of your kind which are rampant in Lake Chapala.  I visited there in 2017 and saw right away that it wasn't for me.  most of the people there reminded me of my parents.  We have had a fair number leave that area and move here to the Ensenada area.

Generally here INM office still require masks other than that I do see some seniors and mothers with small children wearing masks. These people are locals and this is a  tourist area.

I ridicule because they pushed for us to HAVE to keep wearing masks after the govt stopped it. They verbally attacked anyone who wasn't vaxed. They tried to do like the vaxers in the USA and make it so you needed a Vax card to do anything. But lucky for us unvaxed Mexico govt didn't give in to the demands of the vaxers.

So I get to make fun because they refused to let the unvaxed just live the life they wanted and to force us to live like THEY wanted us to live. And holy crap they refused to just leave us alone.

So I earned the right to laugh at them. On the local boards they wished death on us. We just laughed. Me and my wife never vaxed and never caught covid or to be honest anything else the last 3 years while they are on the 3rd or 4th bout of covid and other sickness. But they still try and tell us we are being selfish and are horrible because we still won't get vaxed and wear a mask when the locals are done with covid.

So yes I will keep laughing at them and waiting for vaxed coincidences to keep happening.

"Say what you mean, mean what you say, just don't say it mean".  Is a statement I learned.  I try to remember it before I respond to something said or done to intentionally hurt me.

The PAUSE button that allows me to THINK ,  I spell it out one letter at a time.  T  is Thoughtful?, H  is it Honest?, I  is it Intelligent?, N  is it Necessary?, and last K  is it Kind?  This gives me time to respond and not re-Act.   It can be quite annoying to have someone's judgment cast upon us.  The Covid has created a huge impact on the whole human race.  Emotions and much of what we were carrying on the inside had to be looked at by each one of us.

As a hairstylist at a children's Salon we still maintained masks, with options for customers including children over 2 yrs. to be masked. It is only in the last couple of months that we have options to mask or not.  I like having the option.  If I am not feeling my best, I can cover up, and when it is chilly 45 degrees, it keeps me warm.    I am in Marin County.   San Francisco Bay, CA

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I am sorry you were harassed.

I wish more would have been like you. But well they were not. And with me and my wife both joining the military during a war to only be told later in life we didn't have any tights or say in our choices was the final straw. I personally gave up a full paid rude thru school to join the military as a E-2.   So I sacrificed alot to put my life in danger to only be told you have no freedom or tights.

Here in Mexico I am safer than in the USA and they are not trying to take my choices away here... Well outside the xpats who for some reason think they run Mexico.

I understand.  Wow, that is tough stuff.  Mind boggling.  Thank you for your service and proud of you for that effort. I can imagine how painful it must be to feel unappreciated for such a true sacrifice of service.

However, I am glad you and your wife have found a safer and more tranquil space in the world to live, where you can continue to grow and be the best you God made you to be.
