Turkey - Can I go back?

Post new topic

Hi - so my Father is Turkish but I was born in England. I have a fully Turkish name and most of my family live in Turkey. I am currently in the process of gathering the documents needed to submit my application for a Turkish citizenship however in the meantime I am having some trouble.

So I was recently in Turkey and just came back. I'm pretty sure I was there via a 'tourist visa' as I am a British citizen (you don't have to apply for any visa when visiting to Turkey from UK - you just go and I think it's automatic).  According to the tourist visa, I am only allowed back into Turkey on the 28th of October. However I would like to go back as early as the 3rd of October. I have family that is sick, hence the urgency.

So my question is - if I went to Turkey on, lets say, the 3rd of October - what would actually happen? If I have to pay a fine upon entering the country then I am absolutely okay with this - but would they let me in the country? Does anyone have any experience with this and would it be different for me due to the fact that I am Turkish.

I would say longer term it is fine, but in such a short time, perhaps if you have details of your father that is fine I would think, but risky. Key is when do you last enter Turkey? I more than 3 months, I think no problem, if less you can have serious and risk and the border.

Still if you have certificates from hospital, birth certificates of youf father apart from your language capabilities, I would say 70% chance to enter (but risky)

I would say good luck, but 3rd October is not very far.

My feeling a way out is you are allowed 90 days per 180, did you take this (probably not)

hi,

Why are you applying for citizenship? You should have gained the Turkish citizenship by birth as your dad is Turkish. You sure you are doing the right thing?

Why not call the Turkish consulate in London and ask?

Hi @latte73, may this message finds you well. I am no lawyer, but to my knowledge and understanding, since you are not yet a Turkish citizen, but have Turkish ties, you can approach the Turkish embassy in the UK to request for a temporary travel document or an emergency travel document, due to the reason you stated. If not, it may be helpful to ask an immigration lawyer to help you out and get legal advice on your situation to help you check that you are following the correct law and addressing your overstay. I hope this helps.

Probably also good to just call with the Turkish embassy, again, I think all will be fine (70%)

+ Have you visited the consulate at your place of residence? Proof that you are the child of a Turkish father. This can be done by showing your birth certificate. They will put you in the process to receive a passport which should not take that much of time.

@cdw057

So I was in Turkey from 30th April - 17th May and from 1st July - 10th September. According to the 90/180 rule I can only go back on the 28th of October. But I am trying to go back before this!

@trasiaofficial Yes, according to Turkish law I am technically a Turkish citizen as my mum and dad were married when I was born however I am submitting the application so that I can actually receive a citizen card and have a national identity number etc.

@bluemushroom Hi - thank you! I will do this

@trasiaofficial    I have an appointment at the consulate on the 2nd of October. My plan is to hand in everything needed for my citizenship then and to also request to be able to return to Turkey before the 28th (because I'm not sure how long it will take to receive my citizenship and in the meantime I want to be able to go back).

latte73

@kaylieevans Hey - I'm not on facebook unfortunately. Is there a whatsapp number for this group or another way I could contact?

cdw057

I hate facebook, instagram and whatsapp, a normal phone call  (or email) to embassy or consulate should be sufficitient.
