Hello

I am thinking of going to the North for a period of a month to see and explore the area.

Please can someone advise on the following?

I am thinking of hiring a car at one of the borders and not taking my southern registered car ( I have heard numerous negative things about cars being damaged purposely in the North? )

Are the any implications with passport etc and the length of stay?

What currency do they prefer and can you use a southern bank debit card?

What is the best areas to experience?

Any other advice greatly received

Many thanks

You heard utter nonsense! It is north cars in the south that get vandalised.  South cars in North are never touched. There is anyway much much less low level crime in north than south.

You will be given 30 day visa when you cross into trnc. If you want longer you will need to go to central cop s g op in North nicosia.

You can bring car from south for your stay but you will only get 3rd party insurance,  so if that OK then cheaper to bring than to hire.

Currency is of course turkish lire. You can use your south debit card everywhere.  Very little cash used as in the south.

It's pretty much safe to take your own car over to TRNC.. I have done so, many times. Just be sure to take your log book  current valid passport.and your valid residency document and the appropriate Insurance third party cover fee in cash notes.

As for currency they Will take euros or TRY . We used our Cyprus registered Revolut cards everywhere .. exchanged euros or pounds for TRY in app as and when we needed to draw cash from recognised atms.

i have a house in Kyrenia and on friday and saturday I feel there are more south cyprus license plates than the north.

they accept turkish lira us dollar or euro.  i dont know about a south cyprus debit card but had no issue with my us bank debit card.  no one cares about the north and south now.  i think people just assume there is still anomocity.  but i never saw it.  its all about making money and the north does not want to damage its tourist image.
