Don't know about American versions but the HU version is likely more or less the same.

You can sign up and pay locally too (in HUF).

@fluffy2560

Are the movies in English ?

Netflix broadcasts its content in the original language from when it was originally produced, it normally offers subtitles for those of us who prefer to see the subtitles.  A useful aid-memoir when watching it is to use the Netflix codes when browsing to the site, it reveals a lot more content; this will take you to the website where they are listed.

US Netflix has a far bigger catalog of movies, but if you try to sign onto the US site from Hungary you'll be redirected back to Hungary.

If you try to sign onto the US site using a US VPN you will in most instances be blocked; Netflix has a strong system for detecting VPNs. Nonetheless, some VPNs may be able at times to break through the Netflix wall.

Yes, I think so too.

Probably if one is using a commercial VPN, they would have more chance of detection as they could just use geo-location and checking known IP addresses.

If using a private VPN (like, direct to your own or someone else's US house), there's less chance of  the IP address showing up on a list.

In any case, while I haven't bothered to look into it that much, VPN detection would create an overhead on streaming.  Not sure how much but I'd guess - at an extreme - something like 15% of bandwidth.  Significant enough.

I certainly don't know for certain, but I've read that Netflx's VPN and overseas IP detection runs only when you select a video, not during the actual streaming.

Hmmm....interesting.  It would be a significant overhead in streaming.

I think then, if you can fool it to login, then probably it won't check you further unless it polls regularly, it could cut you off.

That kind of thing is such a crock.  It just encourages people to download instead. I suppose that the content manufacturers think of it as wastage or pilferage as the average person wouldn't bother put the effort in.

We’ve never had a problem logging on to our UK Netflix account when in Holland.

IDK now but I was getting Netflix through being a guest on my sisters US Netflix with her permission.

She has a thing with a friend where one pays for Netflix and the other another streaming site.

Netflix cracked down on sharing with more then 2 people so I no longer get a signal from her.

Maybe if You have a friend in the states with Netflix you can set something up with sharing the bill?

@angelarobbins VPN is the only way and link your account through your app ready TV

ljcooke64

@angelarobbins I use Express VPN but there is also Nord VPN

You can pay for more screens.  We were doing that in the UK before they changed things.  We just let it go but I went away for a bit and when I came back someone had reinstated it from Netflix HU.  I was a bit annoyed as I had no say in if I wanted it or not. I'd have probably said "no".

I've had success using PIA VPN in Hungary & other European countries when streaming Netflix and Paramount + using my US subscription plans.

I've not had problems with using a VPN in the past. But as most of the Netflix programs are in English I don't bother.

For my TV I just use an IPTV. A choice of 16000, not like I'm interested in most of the countries. But the UK and other English speaking countries I like.

I also have video on demand.

BTW:

If you're using BBC Iplayer, they are going to stop it soon.   By April 2024, all downloaded shows on the PC version will be deleted.

The BBC said it was moving everything to mobiles because no-one uses the PC version.

I think that's absolute BS, lots of people use it, including me.  I use it over a VPN too.

Netflix isn't that good. I don't rush to watch anything on it all.  I hardly have time anyway.  Laying on the sofa, I usually get 30m in and find I've missed a lot as I've fallen asleep!
