If I recall correctly, you can work, open a bank account, etc, with the protocolo, no problem.

My card had my date of birth wrong by 2 years - in Brazil I am actually 2 years younger then when I use my British passport...! Never caused a problem, even when both documents were used together, and they never corrected it from 17 years ago...

Are you aware that there is a dispute between the government and the company that prints the cards, which apparently is causing huge delays in delivery of the cards? I've seen comments elsewhere on the internet by people who have been waiting for up to six months, and are still being told to "check back in a few months." On person posted an image of an email response from the PF alluding to the dispute and the fact that printing of the cards has stopped.

@jonesio I heard the machine was broken and there was a big backlog.

All I can do is play it as it rolls. I will keep track of it online and do an extension if needed for the protocol.

@jonesio I didn't hear that there was a dispute.  When I went to the PF I was told the machine was broken.  If you can find and post anything regarding the dispute, it would be interesting to read.  Seems a bit odd that a contractor could just refuse to print something as important as government identification cards.  One would think at the very least processing would continue and the dispute would be arbitrated.

@mikehunter I have read about the "dispute" in various places, including a posted image of a PF email that cites a "dispute" as the reason in a reply to someone who has waited six months for their card. Personally, I find it easier to believe the dispute reasoning than the likelihood that a machine would be broken for that period of time. I have no idea what the nature of the dispute might be, but I am guessing that it is likely that the printing company has not been paid. In a similar fiasco, lack of money was the reason cited for the big delay in issuing passports to Brazilians in 2022, when the government claimed it had no budget to produce them. Passport printing was halted. If I come across something again, I will post it here.

@jonesio Thanks for the quick reply.  Yeah, I've been searching for anything regarding CRNM delays, disputes, etc. and have found nothing, so looking forward to see anything you can post.  I did a search on the Passport delays and there are alot of posts on that regarding budgets, PF running out of money, etc., but haven't been able to find anything on the CRNM situation. 

It's a bit odd that they charge R$207 for the card, but apparently for some reason can't seem to find the money to print it.

@Canforbra sorry to bother u but im in the process ro get my permit for marriage and daw that u got the fingerprints done . would u care to help me and explain whats the steps to get it…. di i have to go to federal police in Brazil to do ans ask for the criminal records ? thanks in advance

@mikehunter What does your card show when you look online? Mine says "processing".

Where did you made your appointment? Or where do you go to ask for help at immigration office or where? Because their website is broken migrante.mj.gov.br, it's asking me to sign "Termo de Compromisso e de Responsabilidade" but they don't appear anywhere, hence preventing me from "Enviar Solicitacao" and the button being greyed out.

@jasonlovesdogs My status is: "Seu documento foi encaminhado para impressão."  It has been that way since the first week of December 2023.

If your are not currently in brazil you will get the check done by say the RCMP or FBI and so on in your home country.

If you are in Brazil you will need to probably go through an approved third-party in your home country.

You will have to check with them as to the protocol they need done.

Once I had that organized I went to the federal police at Lapa in sao paulo with the paper for the printing to be done on, bring your passport and a copy of it. They will have you fill out a form probably too.

It was free as well. But they did the ink prints for me to send off and digital ones plus a picture for their records.

Make sure the officers, signs and stamps all the required places for verification.

This make me scared.  When my wife gives birth, I will take the birth certificate and sign up for my and my wife's PR.  But at that point, we will be in country for 3 months already, extended our visa for another 3 months.  What if we have to leave before we get our cards?

Am I reading that wrong, or are you planning to come to Brazil on a tourist visa while pregnant, then apply for permanent residency based on giving birth while in Brazil?

@Canforbra thank u . we are in Brazil already , understood that what i have to do now that i am finally able to register the weddjng after waiting months for the apostiled certificate , i will go and see whats gonna happen ….

You will not be required to leave.  Once you have registered your child as as Brazilian citizen and have applied for residency, your status changes and time limits on your previous visa no longer apply, although overstay fines already incurred still may.

No way to cheat the overstay fine. Make sure you pay it off else that will prevent you from having a clean cpf and restrict things like banking or opening a proper bank etc. Trickle down effect throws large punches when not paying attention! lol

@Canforbra ALL NAMES ON OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS SHOULD BE THE SAME. I am not sure if sobrenome is just the way they classify it, but i am still in the USA, going on over a month now because my resident location while I was in college did not notify my birth location that I had changed my name.  I would definitely ask them, If my daughter did not live in the same area as the Brazilian Consulate, I would be out of a LOT of money for hotel rooms.

ya roddie is right, everything has to match up for name specifically, and because i was blessed with a 5 part irish name thats proven quite the task for this xD

I submitted my application at the end of February and got a protocol for three months. However, i used the qr code on the protocol to check the status two days ago and i can see a new protocol with validity of my residency (2033).

I reckon this implies my application has been approved. Can i visit PF to receive a new protocol without an email saying my card is ready?

I just did my residency appointment.
It went smooth. They will take your picture and finger prints at the desk.

The wait for the card is 3 months.

I have my protocol.  Question...can you work with the protocol or do you have to wait the 3 months for the card to be issued before you can legally work?

Just noticed on the protocol that they put my middle name with my last name under sobrenome. Is that an issue?
