German Shepherd Dog

Can anyone recommend me an Eastern German breeder for GSDs? I would like to buy one 3-4 months old and bring the baby dog to Bulgaria. I cannot find any online breeders. I would like an orange/black or pure black one. Even better if the dogs have straight backs. The dog needs to have basic training in German only. Thanks you:)

I have no idea but wonder why look in Germany? German shepards are popular all over the world. Would likely be much easier and cheaper to find one in Bulgaria if you are living there.

I have a DDR shepherd: he  has been very healthy almost all his life( 12.5 years), now 13.

He was bought in America from a breeder that imported DDR shepherds.

I prefer the dog  to be from Germany direct( I will pay all shipping etc.) since I will be in Bulgaria very soon.

Those are the best dogs ever. The working line is simply the best.

( I also love German cars- my BMW is the best too !!!!!hahaha)

I'd watch out for puppy farms.

Our dog (a Golden Retriever) came from dog breeder who seemed to have bit of a factory going.

Looking back on it, it didn't seem that nice.  The mothers are constantly pregnant and exhausted.

But our doggy is nice enough but we're really kind to her.

The VHD is an organization which brings together all the dog clubs in Germany, many breeders are part of it, they must respect strict rules see here The VHD is an organization which brings together all the dog clubs in Germany, many breeders are part of it, they must respect strict rules see here , but the site is in German. in Bulgaria as in the eastern countries, there is a huge trafficking of dogs, where nothing is respected, the mortality of puppies is very high, the majority dies before the age of 3, because they have initiated a process of self-destruction because of stress and mistreatment, only the professional matters. the VDH has a reliable list of breeders, but it is still necessary to look and check, do not hesitate to ask for the certificate given by the veterinary administration of the local prefecture and the identification number of the breeder, as well as the reise animal pass from the European Union, signed by a local veterinarian

I don't think you'll find everyone here (in Hungary) will adhere to those rules.  They won't care.  A lot of countryside people think of animals as things, not pets.  If a dog gets "broken", then get another one.  A lot of them get chained up in the garden and that's as far as they can go.  If they are lucky, they'll have a kennel/shelter.

They think the breeders can get EUR 500+ (?) a puppy or even more and that's what's motivating them.  We saw at least 3 mother dogs each with 6 puppies in a kind of shed with cages.  I didn't see anywhere the dogs could get outside and do doggy things/get exercise.  It's all about the money.

I will find a good breeder. That is why my dog is still alive. My breeder was good.

I love my dog to death. Thanks for responses.

the puppies are offered on the internet, then an appointment is made in a parking lot or a discreet place, payment is made in cash without witnesses. the papers are false, the electronic chip is often inoperative, or even absent. mistreatment makes dogs fearful, stressed, even aggressive. I know a person who helps in an animal shelter, she accommodates them in her home, they live 2-3 years no more. I am a member of a kennel club, whose federation is part of the VDH, and I had good information about the breeder, he was known for his competence, after the birth of the puppies I went 4 times to see the puppy, and he also observed me, because he refuses to sell a puppy if he doesn't like the person, he was part of a club for rescue and research dogs, he knew my club. jean luc1f609.svg

One good news about pets here is that vets are relatively cheap.  We're responsible owners of our car and dog.  Both fully vaccinated, chipped, groomed, fed, entertained and loved etc.

City dog people do look after their animals more but country cats get no maintenance at all.  If it gets sick, it's dead as there's always another cat around the corner.

Mrs F's grandfather was a vet.  Villagers would bring their cows and horses in for treatment but not their cats and dogs.  Not really high value enough.   This was down near the Romanian border.
