Correct Name Order on Vietnam Evisa Application

Post new topic

Vee Ng

Hi everyone,

I'm applying for Vietnam Evisa for the first time, and I'm confused with the name order in which I supposed to put correctly on the form directly from my passport. On the example, they showed that they want me to put my name exactly how the "Machine readable zone" of my passport displays . My full name on my US Passport in order of First-Middle-Last is "Vi Ngoc Yen Nguyen" ("Ngoc Yen" is my middle name). On the form, they asked for Surname and Given Name, so according to my passport i put in:

Surname: Nguyen

Given Name: Vi Ngoc Yen

The Machine readable zone of my passport is something like this for my name: P<USANGUYEN<<VI<<NGOC<<YEN<<<<<<<<<<<

My passport listed my surname is "Nguyen", and given name is "Vi Ngoc Yen"

However, if I put in in the order they want me to do on the example, my full name came out in their format of Last-Middle-First name as "Nguyen Vi Ngoc Yen", but it should be "Nguyen Ngoc Yen Vi". Did I put my name in correctly?

Thank you for everyone's help in advance!

    Hi everyone,

Hello Vee Ng, and welcome to the expat.com Vietnam forum.

I'm applying for Vietnam Evisa for the first time, and I'm confused with the name order in which I supposed to put correctly on the form directly from my passport. On the example, they showed that they want me to put my name exactly how the "Machine readable zone" of my passport displays .

Are you applying through the only official Vietnam eVisa application page, (click, "FOR FOREIGNERS")? I ask this as I'm unfamiliar with the quote "Machine readable zone". It does not appear to be on the actual application.

Also, the official application page does not ask for "First-Middle-Last" name order. It asks for "Surname", and "Given name". Though it asks for "given name" (singular) the applicant must include any middle names (multiple) showing on the ICAO line at the bottom of the passport bio page. As you may be aware, the Vietnamese language does not include plurals, hence the application stating "Given name" instead of "Given names"

We strongly encourage applicants to apply through the .

If you are using the official Vietnam application portal, your name should be input as

Surname* - NGUYEN         Given name* - VI NGOC YEN

Thank you for everyone's help in advance!

You're quite welcome. Hope that this helps.

Your name suggests that you are of Vietnamese descent. If so, are you aware of your being entitled to visa-exempt entry (as well as other privileges), with extended stays?

Feel free to ask further questions as they arise and once again, welcome to expat.com.
