UK Marriage Recognised in Laos

Post new topic

I'm from UK and married my Laos wife in the UK in June 24 and plan to live in the UK, but from what I understand is that Laos government does not recognise a UK marriage. When we travel to her home town, we keep getting threats from other within the town, saying that they are going to call the police to get us arrested, as we are not married. Now we are married in the UK, what do I have to do to get the marriage recognised in Laos so that the threats stop.

Welcome to the forum Marc.

Have you contacted the Lao Embassy in UK for advice.

Have your UK marriage certificate translated into Lao by an official translator. The Embassy should have a list of such translators.

I would suggest a marriage in Laos to make things official. This would give you the official marriage certificate which can be translated into English.

But if you are planning to live full time in UK, then the threats are nothing to worry about.
