Brazil Permanent Visa - CRNM / RNE ID Card Renewal Timeline

Post new topic

robwiltshire

Hi all, thanks for the info here over the recent months. I’ve been following these updates to get an idea on how long it will take to get a new CRNM ID card from the Polícia Federal in Brazil.

Mine was a renewal of the expiring old style RNE card which had an expiry date in June 2024.

March 2024 was the earliest I could go to the Policia Federal to request the CRNM card, as you can only do this 90 days before expiry of the RNE.

I booked an appointment (needed in São Paulo to provide documents, but appointment not needed (São Paulo) to collect ID card when ready).

I provided necessary documents and received a A4 protocol printout which serves as official ID during the CRNM process.

I started checking online for progress the same day...

When the page loads, immediately refresh it. The page you first see might be cached on your PC / phone. When you refresh, you download the latest data from the DPF portal. You shouldn’t get an ‘expired’ error if you change the language as you’ve refreshed the initial page.

This is the first status I saw on the portal the date I provided documents.

20/03/2024 - O requerimento está sendo processado.

Nothing changed for 2 months, but this was at the time that a printer supplier was being contracted.

I saw this expat update in April this update - thanks all !

The below Polícia Federal portal update in May was unexpected…

19/05/2024

Polícia Federal portal provided an update with an advanced date 24/05/2024

24/05/2024 - ‘arquivado’

Possibly an error which was then reverted back with a fresh update. With the contract now in place with the printers this date might then have been the new ‘start’ date of my process (last 2 months waiting for a printing supplier)

13/05/2024 - O requerimento está sendo processado.

It seemed that updates were made around Saturday or Monday mid-month, but I checked the portal daily with no expectations of updates between these mid-month dates.

At the start of June, I went to the Polícia Federal with my Protocol A4 printout to get a new one as the protocol printout expiry date was at the end of June. I just showed up with the Protocol form (I took docs and passport too just in case). Show the protocol form at the gate and say ‘Renovação do protocolo’. They’ll write something on the protocol form, then you queue up outside, then move inside, then wait in the small room for your name or number to be called. I got a new protocol form with an expiry date at the end of August.

This date of 15th June is the date of  ‘emissão’ I have on my CRNM ID card and the date had not changed on the site updates since, only the status itself changed..

I went to collect in Lapa, São Paulo on the 7th August. Just show up with the Protocol form (I took docs and passport too just in case). Show the protocol form at the gate and say ‘Retiro’. They’ll write this on the form, then you queue up outside, then move inside, then wait in the small room for your name/number to be called.

Documento foi entregue ao interessado na unidade DELEMIG/DREX/SR/PF/SP em 07/08/2024.

After all this, I made a colour photocopy of my CRNM ID and got this ‘authenticated’ as a genuine copy at a Cartório to carry with me all the time, leaving the original at home. If I lose the photocopy, I can make a replacement in a day 🙂

I hope this helps and gives a rough idea of the timeline to get or renew a CRNM ID card...

@robwiltshire It took me 5 weeks. It is in my wallet next to my MD. Driver's license.

Thank you for this thread! My card hit the 'in transit' phase on August 12th apparently, I just checked the website last night. Took only 5 days from my husband and I visiting the PF and getting my protocolo. Good to know I should be at the very end of this whole process soon. 1f60a.svg

OK, excellent news -- they got it ready literally this morning! I am scheduled to pick it up tomorrow. So for reference, my timeline looks like this:

August 7th: Approved for residency, got my protocolo paper as ID

August 12th: Card was produced and sent off

August 27th: Card arrived in the São Paulo PF unit I am near

August 28th: Scheduled to pick up card

Fingers crossed all works out!

Aaand done without a single problem. The site said I'd need an appointment, but when I showed up they didn't want to look at anything except my protocolo paper. 21 days for a card seems quite quick, and I'm happy for that!

@roddiesho @amelie2301

Great news. PF must have cleared their backlog now !

roddiesho

@robwiltshire Bravo! Now if they would only have let me smile in the photo. Mine looks like a Mug Shot!

@roddiesho, mine was taken immediately after a 90 minute wait at DPF to show documents. ID photos are of hungry people.

@Appunu.   The Brazilian Embassy in Abu Dhabi handles visas and other consular questions for the United Arab Emirates.  If you and your family are planning to return to Brazil to live, your wife should contact them, by telephone or email, tell them your situation, and request information on how to obtain a VITEM XI Family Reunion Visa for you.  Once you are back in Brazil, you can apply for a CRNM, which replaced the RNE/CIE in 2017, at the Federal Police office.  The contact information is here:

Your residency cannot be renewed outside Brazil.  If you are not planning to go to Brazil in the near future, re-applying for residency will have to wait until you do.
