Looking for a job in Luxembourg? Start here!

Post new topic

Lauranne

Hi everyone,

As many of you in this community are looking for a job in Luxembourg, I’ve created this discussion to gather all the practical tips for job hunting.

Please go through all these links and read the information below before asking a question on the forum: the answer is probably already in this post! 😊

Do you have any other advice to share, whether it’s job search websites or practical tips on CVs and cover letters, either in general or for a specific industry? Share them here to help others!

Here is a summary of information on how to find a job in Luxembourg:

  • Overall, the guide is full of useful information about the country, and I strongly encourage you to read all the articles on topics that may interest or concern you. It's regularly updated and new articles are published on a regular basis

  • At the end of the guide article on working in Luxembourg, you will find links to job search websites. In addition, here are, in my opinion, the best websites to find a job in Luxembourg: , , , , .

  • you will find a list of jobs in high demand in Luxembourg, for which it is easier to obtain visas for people coming from outside the EU.

  • is a website dedicated to recruiting for jobs in high demand in the country

Here are some tips for tailoring your CV and cover letter for the country:

  • CV Length: Your CV should not exceed two pages, and if you can fit it onto one page, that's even better!

  • Prioritize Professional Experience: In Luxembourg, professional experience often holds more weight than academic qualifications. I suggest placing your work experiences at the top of your CV. Be sure to clearly indicate the number of months or years you spent in each role. That said, it depends on the job you are applying for. The goal is for employers to see within 10 seconds that you're qualified for the job, whether through your qualifications, experience, or both. Highlight whichever aspect is most relevant, depending on your situation and the job you're applying for.

  • "My profile" section : it's standard practice in Luxembourg to start your CV with a “My Profile†section that summarizes your background, why you're qualified, and what you have to offer. Generally, this section is about 5-6 lines long, with important keywords in bold. If you don't have this section on your CV, I suggest you add it.

  • Tailor your CV to each Job Application: For every application, at least change the title of your CV and rearrange your work experiences or qualifications so that the most relevant ones comes first. Again, the idea is for recruiters to quickly see that you're a good match for the position. If none of your work experiences directly relate to the job, emphasize transferable skills that are relevant to the role

  • Languages: Language skills are very important in Luxembourg. French, German, and Luxembourgish are the country's official languages, and English is often an added advantage. Any other language can also be a significant asset in your application. I recommend clearly highlighting all the languages you speak, including your native language, and the ones you might be currently learning (or ready to learn) and indicating your proficiency level for each (A1, A2, B1, B2, etc.). Adding that you are willing to learn any langages that might be useful for the job is also a good idea.

  • Emphasize your motivation to move to Luxembourg: clearly explain why you want to move to Luxembourg. Focus on the fact that you are looking for a long-term job and that you plan to settle in Luxembourg for the long term.

  • Demonstrate Long-Term Commitment: Companies in Luxembourg face recruitment challenges because there are more open positions than candidates. One of the major issues is that many people take a job and then leave after a few weeks or months. By showing that you are seeking a stable, long-term position, you increase your chances of being hired.

Here are all my advice! 😊

Does anyone want to add any other recommendation?

Thank you!

@Lauranne, A very big thank Madam Lauranne, your explanation has really helped.

Please can you send me a format for designing a CV and Cover letter for Luxembourg job.

Thanks,

Best regard

Lauranne

@sulaimonadekunle64

Hello sulaimonadekunle64,

Unfortunately, I can’t send you a sample CV or cover letter, but I’m glad to say that ADEM, which is Luxembourg’s employment agency, offers two extremely good guides on this topic on their website.

There is an English guide on how to create a CV tailored for the country, with dos and don'ts. There is also a similar guide for cover letters . The latter is only available in French at the moment, but you can download the PDF and have it translated on a website or app. Both guides are highly detailed and full of examples, so I think they should be helpful to you.

What do you think?

Let me know!

This is getting silly, does no one read anything that Lauranne says or does?  She has created a separate post  for job seekers. This thread is for people who are actually in the country.

This that abusive shit, will simply have their post deleted and membership bard.

Lauranne

@Patience Ejembi

Hello Patience,

As a nurse coming from a non-EU country, you must apply for recognition of your diploma. You can apply . You may also be required to pass an exam afterward to obtain the right to work as a nurse. Have you read this topic? You should find quite a few answers there.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions!
