Car rental

Hi all,

I am planning to visit Sal and Boa Vista for some days. I prefer to spend my budget on activities and not in accomodation and transportation.

I will need a vehicle if I want to explore more spots for kiting and windsurfing for a couple of days.

What are your recommendations and what options are there really?

I was reading you can ask a hotel but I don't plan to stay in a big hotel. What are the prices for car rental? Online I don't find something cheaper than 50-60£ per day, which is not affordable. If that is the best option, should I book before my arrival? Obviously I won't just walk to some company and drop them cash deposits or documents.

Is taxi (off-road with space for surf material) really an option?

Other rental options/ Uber/ somebody to dropoff?

Thanks in advance and feel free to send me cheaper trustworthy companies if you have something in mind.

Helllo Koutsikopaido,

When you get to Sal, just rent at the airport. There are no a lot of options for car rentals. And pprices in Sal are tourist prices. Car rental in other islands are a little cheaper. You can probably get cheaper if you rent a smaller car. To rent a taxi all day will be a little cheaper and is the better option if you wont be out every single day. There are no Ubers in CV.

Maybe someone else here knows of other cheaper car rental companies in Sal. Just be careful of smaller, local companies. They will ask you for a large deposit in advance in case you break the car. I have heard of cases where they won't give you the deposit back even if you don't break teh car, as they know you are going away and won't havetime to deal with the problem. Juts be careful is all I can tell you if you find a local company offering below market prices.

Good luck,

I used tuicars to rent a car when I visited Santiago last August. It's a German company (I think) but they use local rental companies. They have an agent on Sal too. It costs about 45 euro a day for a Fiat Panda sized car. You can try to find one of those local companies yourself but the price wont be much different.

If it is just for a few days I guess it may be easier and cheaper to use a taxi. The driver can take you to your surf spot, and pick you up a few hours later. Make sure to pay only after you return to Santa Maria ;)
