Deposit on a house

I just recently put a deposit on a house, a few days later the agent informed my that the seller is selling it to someone else. Is this legal, can the seller do that or can i take legal action I thought the deposit would hold the house for me until i pay the balance on the day.

Do you have a signed contract and/or written correspondence?

Tip for every one, do not pay deposits on high value purchases from any private citizens, completely unnecessary and you are in for a fight to get it back from a Thai private citizen

I have a receipt of the deposit that was transferred to the agent. But no signed contract.

If you have no contract, I would kindly ask my money returned.... This can take a few weeks!!!

Mate you have been gazump ... Hapend in Australia ......聽 the agent get better deal and UR Styffed sorry get your deposit back and startagain this time sing a contact that if you get gazump a fee will be paid to you like 5% of the deposit you paid this way they do not gazump you ..... if not sing a contractfind other agent ...
