Expat communities Eje Cafetero

Post new topic

Hi Everyone ! My name is Grace, I am actually on this forum to help find my mom an expat community in Colombia. She is located in the eje cafetero and loves gardening animals and in general loves being social but since retiring and moving back to Colombia the transition hasn't been the easiest to find like-minded individuals. Is there anyone that can provide some insight on expat communities in that region or live around there themselves? Would love to connect ! Thank you in advance everyone, just a daughter trying to help her mom.

Look on Facebook.  Or just try searching the internet for something like

group expats in manizales

...and just substitute whatever city name, like Pereira, Armenia, and the like for other locations. You will see at least several Facebook groups which you/she can investigate to see if they meet your needs.

And not to disparage expats, many of whom are fine people - but if your Mom loves being social, she should start learning Spanish NOW so she can communicate with the locals, even on an elementary level.  Colombians are among the most social people in the world and will welcome her with open arms, if she makes even the smallest efforts to show she's trying to learn Spanish and the rich and interesting culture.

Although I have not used this service, I suggest she contact a local guide for whatever city she may end up in - many are free or charge only a nominal amount.  They could be very helpful in showing her around.  Here is a page for ShowAround in Pereira, and other cities also have many guides:

Thank you for your suggestions. Spanish is not the issue, she is fluent in both languages and was actually born and raised in Colombia. Often times when you return to your home town individuals do not understand the life experiences you've lived and is difficult to find similarities hence why I have reached out to an Expat community. It is a completely different experience than one of a born and raised American looking to retire in a new country vs someone returning.
