What are the best and the worst facts about your expat home?

Post new topic

Oz Factor

What are the best and most alarming facts about your new home?

Here are mine.

The best

Australia often tops a plethora of polls as the best country in the world to live and according to tourism Australia, the country is one of the one of the safest destinations in the world.

Australia is the only developed country that escaped a recession after the global financial crisis.

AustraliaÂ’s coastline stretches almost 50,000 kilometres and is linked by over 10,000 beaches, more than any other country in the world.

Australia has the lowest population density – only two people per square metre – but 70% live in the cities, which are near to the coast.

And the worstÂ….

Australia has the highest skin cancer rates in the world. A massif two out of three Australians will get it before they reach 70. (Cancer Council Australia)

Australia is the only developed country in the world that has a third world disease – trachoma - an easily treatable, curable and preventable disease that largely affects Indigenous communities and causes blindness. (ABC, & Koori Mail)

Australia has a racial discriminatory law that only applies to its Indigenous peoples known as "the Intervention", which has been condemned by the United Nations. (SBS)

Australia does not have a human rights law.

What are your's?

I am also expat, and I must say↲The best is that I am in four season country with my husband and his family. Its nice, clean, and really wonderful nature. People are polite. ↲The worst is that I must study the local language to be able to communicate to everyone. Just few people can speak a little english in my city. ↲http://www.anickaworld.com

More about best and worst......There's a saying about Brisbane Weather, one day it's beautiful and the next day is perfect. It's true, except for when we get storms and floods. I wrote about the floods here wp.me/p1verc-2i

The best things about Hong Kong are the great food, friendly people and excellent transportation system.

The worst are the smog, constant humidity and typhoons.

Oz Factor

Humidity and crazy weather go together don't they!

Most people know the best and worst of India already. In my situation I moved from a very small town in the US to a very crowded city in India. So from a personal standpoint the worst part would be the lack of trees/grass, fresh air and peace and quiet. The best parts are the excess of places to shop and the hospitality.

HaileyinHongKong

What are the best and worst of India?  I don't already know.

WhiteBhabi

Lol, okay.
Best:
Cultural experiences
Taj Mahal and other fascinating locations like the palaces
The Himalayas
All the crazy things that go on here you can't see anywhere else

Worst:
Corruption
Heat
Trash is almost everywhere

Just to name a few.

kiwiinkorea

The best things about Korea are the people, low cost of living, public transportation and very very safe.

The worst is the pollution, stinking hot summers and brutally cold winters.

Other than that it's pretty good all round.
