Weekday drinkers

Post new topic

My wife and I are staying at her sister's home while we find our apartment. We bought some wine and had it with dinner. She commented that Sweden isn't like the US, Swedish people "do not" drink during the week, only on the weekend.

Since I am a guest in their home I didn't say anything but looked it up and found out that Sweden is considered "weekday" drinkers like the rest of Europe and US.

I asked the System Bolaget and they said that Swedish people are secretive about their drinking but they do buy alot here and in Finland.

Her sister became irrated when I showed her the site stating "weekday" drinkers status.

Was she rude or was I? maybe in Sweden showing facts is rude. I know in US she is considered very rude!

I don't think she is right when she say that Swedish people are not weekday drinkers bucause a lot are, but I think swedish people still like to see themself as a perfect citizen and drinking on working day is not a part of it

The "ordinary" proper people, drinks only in weekends, and they drink alot.
But we the normal ones, dont care, we drink whenever we want, but its not "proper" to do it, (you dont tell your boss)

Alcoholic beverages in Sweden are as common as in most of the western world. Sweden is historically part of the vodka belt, with high consumption of distilled beverages and binge drinking, but during the later half of the 20th century, habits have been harmonized with western Europe, with increasing popularity of wine and weekday drinking.
