Is 100$ stipend enough to live in Chandigarh?

Post new topic

My sister is being invited to Chandigarh as an intern(Teacher of english) They are offernig her 100$ stipend and free meal, living accomodations too. Do you think it's enough for one month just to spend on personal things and maybe some extra food if she gets bored by the food at school? Thanks for help.

marksmith

its absolutely not enough for her to have a comfortable living

I think for intern a young girl its enuf , 100$ means Rs. 4800 which is more than enuf to roam around and extra food . but i suggest she carries more as she wud require for shopping and other purposes.

Thank you very much for responses!!!:)
So it is going to be enough. She won't even spend money for rent and daily meals. Just on her personal needs and some extra sweets here and there.;)
Do you know by any chance what is the starting salary for teachers in India? Because according to my research teachers who just came in to the Market make only about 2000 rupees a month? So the stipend of 100$ sounds like a very good deal. What do you think?

Hello,

I feel 100$ would fall short and suggest she keeps atleast 100$ extra every month to meet her requirements. Cos being an expat she would not have food  at places where a local person would have and then how much ever she tries, being a new person and the curiosity to see and explore places, will end up spending more. So, i feel 100$ will not be enough. And chandigarh is one place which is well known for high living standards.

Thank you very much for your post. It was very helpful. Have you ever been to that City? How do you like it? Can you explore a real India starting from there? ;)

Hello,

Chandigarh is a nice city. And i liked it but i prefer the cities like Mumbai and Bangalore more than Chandigarh. Mumbai and Bangalore has more ot offer in terms of diversification and opportunities. I am from Bangalore and i have travelled a lot across India on personal as well as professional trips.

Yes, India can be explored starting from Chandigarh and there a lot of must visit places all across india.
