Hie RonelM;
Accommodation in Kampala depends on where you want to live. Some lovely places in Kololo and Naguru can be quite expensive but the apartments are okay. These normally cost more than US$2000 for a 3 bedroom apartment. However, there are other cheaper places which have good security and the apartments and surroundings are cheaper but lovely.
Living expenses, well that depends on where you buy, most non Ugandans buy from Shopritte, Game, Nakumatti, Uchumi and Tuskies which are mostly non Ugandan supermarkets and since some foods and stuff are mostly imports they are more expensive than South African prices. But then the good thing is the fresh foods and all locally produced stuff like potatoes, tomatoes, bananas etc are very cheap and very delicious.
Electricity and water depends on how much you use. personally I found electricity to be expensive compared to South Africa. That is why most people use gas stoves for cooking.
For schools my daughter was going to Kampala International School (KISU), it is a very nice school but very expensive compared to heritage. In most cases the fees at KISU are more than double what heritage charges. But from what I know, some of the so called International schools are not even accredited by the International boards hence they are as good as private schools and their curriculum is not evaluated. At least for ISU and KISU they are accredited and evaluated by the international board BUT those 2 are very expensive if you pay from your salary... most who go there are because companies cover most of the fees. There are quite a number of Afrikaans speaking families whose kids go to KISU and I could introduce you to some if you inbox.
I dont know about pets.
Good day - I will be moving to Kampala in a few weeks. Can anybody give me information - like living expenses, houses to rent, getting my pets there, info on Heritage International School?
Thanks
Ronel
