Cumbayá for $1,200 a month?

Probably doable.

Consider renting a room in a house there .. not far from a bus line to Quito.

The dude is retired and in a relationship so maybe a room might not be to their liking, but people are different, so who knows.

Renting a room in a house can be a ‘share’ in which the renter(s) have kitchen and living room privileges.

When I owned an apartment building in Danbury, Connecticut, USA, many times Ecuadorians would rent the larger apartments .. with the first one being the named renter and everybody sharing such living spaces.

YMMV. :)

Hi there- I currently live in South Florida basically all my life- so I know humidity well. I lived in Colombia for a year and visited all over. I would suggest Medellin up in the mountains. I didn’t see anywhere on the coast line worth living due to city, cleanliness, weather like you are seeking. Cartegena is the only city on the coast worth visiting and i think it’s ok. Just my opinion of course. Good luck

There is new construction in Cuenca - no need to cross the perfect place off your list.

I have mold allergies also.  I visit Cuenca for a month annually and deal with it for now but I'll be moving there and finding one of the new buildings to move into within the next few years.

Good luck to you!
