why does the Vietnamese call whales a fish pig? And whales are mammals! not fish.

Ca heo is a dolphin.
Ca voi is a whale

and ca map is a fat fish. lol who comes up with these names?

Wrong.  Although you are right when you translate each individual word, cá = fish, mập = fat.  However, together, cá mập = shark.

I suppose because a shark looks kinda like a fat fish.  Cá is probably a classifier for water creatures that are fish-like, have fins and tails that propel them through the water.

Why do you drive on a "parkway" and park in a "driveway"?
Why do you send "shipments" by truck and "cargo" by ship?

uhm you can also park on parkway and drive in driveway just as you can send cargos by truck or shipments by ship.

Cargos generally refer to containers (think big/huge)and ships normal transport these sorts of freights but trucks/train can as well where as shipments generally refer to goods (think small) so these shipments are smaller so can be transported on trucks locally or nationally.

But anyways thanks for killing the light humuor.

Sorry bad habit never dies got to stop going off topic. I've never seen a whale before. Too bad I won't be in Vietnam this year but yeah anyone going let us know how it went so others can try it next year.

and from the sound of it doesn't seem like you actually get to see whales but just a whole bunch of superstitous stuff my fiance would probably be interested in.

According to legend, the remains of a whale washed up on the Vung Tau beach over 100 years ago. The carcass was so gargantuan that fishermen had to wait for the flesh to decompose before being able to pull it to shore and display the bones which came to symbolize the protector of the coast.

Now, every time a whale washes ashore, the bones are ceremonially hauled to the mausoleum. Visitors are welcome to visit the quaint temple with its impressive display of all things whale from paintings and bones to statues.

During the mid-August lunar eclipse, Whale festival is celebrated around the temple.

Somehow I feel cheated!!
