well, I never entered UAE, the employer told me that security approval and administrative work will be needed before the visa will be applied. It has been a long time and the hr told me they are doing the hiring formality. Told me to wait.

The employer is UAEU

It must be approval from the Labor Department and Immigration.  That is a normal procedure for which you have to wait

I am not sure of your question. But if you are asking about the visa process the following tips might give you a fair idea.

Since you are joining a government entity, security check and admin work is simple. You need not go through a labour process. Your visa will be issued directly from immigration department.

It might take approximately a week to get the visa processed provided you forward your employer the necessary documents.  However we had long holidays  during Eid and this might delay the process.

I'm currently waiting on the Abu Dhabi security clearance for a teaching position at a university. It's been over 4 months now.

Anyway, there is a specific security check process that all of the expats at this university have to go through in order to receive a final offer and be subsequently processed for a visa. The only thing the potential expat has to do is get a bunch of documents attested - which includes degrees - and scan them over to the university.

The university in turn submits them to the government for processing. There is no timeframe for approval. The university is in the dark about this process as well. Approval could take a couple weeks to almost half a year. From the posts of others on other forums this, unfortunately, seems pretty normal.

Here are the steps that I had to follow in their respective order:

1. Get a copy of the document notarized.
2. Have the Secretary of State of Michigan validate the notarization.
3. Have the US Department of State validate the Michigan State validation.
4. Have the UAE Embassy in the US validate the US Department of State's validation.

I also had to attest my marriage docs in their country of origin, which is Bangladesh. This is what my relatives had to do for me over there, in order:

1. Notarize the document.
2. Get it attested by the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. Get it stamped by the UAE Embassy in Bangladesh.

Actually, I don't know, the HR is taking care of everything. I am now waiting for the work entry visa which I believe is the last step before I enter uae. What about yours!? Which university are you gonna work for? I am gonna be in UAEU in al ain.

If you're waiting for the work visa now, that means your security clearance was approved. I've been waiting for the security clearance for over 4 months now. The university I've been offered a position at is in Abu Dhabi. I've been reluctant to mention the name of the institution because I'm not sure if that'll influence my chances of getting approved.

The UAE authorities may conduct forum monitoring for potential expats as part of their clearance procedures. On the other hand, they may not OR it may not matter. I, and every potential Abu Dhabi expat I've come across, don't know what these checks are comprised of. The university doesn't know either. They just wait for the government to send them a response of approval or rejection.

Well, as to my case, I waited two month for the contract to be provided to me, and then more than two weeks ago, HR said the entry visa was applied, and,, the story is, I still have to wait... As to my experience, the way they work, is as slow as Saudi, and maybe even worse. The only thing I learnt was that, waiting forever is the only choice.

Well, you are right, the employer also needs to wait the government to proceed all this, my suggestion was that, you patiently wait for the offer letter and visa application, thou it may take too long for ya to imagine.

Anyway, let's together wait, hopefully, it will progress soon! I still miss the efficiency of US consulate proceeding the visa which, if I remember well, only took 2-4 working days to obtain B-visa.. Lol

Well, it took you longer maybe cuz you are taking your dependent  and, moreover, they are not originated from the states... I am going there alone, maybe that's why...

Hi i m waiting for my security clearance in Abu Dhabi i got job offer there ,in the beginning hr told me that it took 4-6 weeks but now almost 3 months.......nd i m still waiting for that....any one one have any idea about time limit......

Don't believe people in HR department or any other department,,, they are blowing,,, not true at all....... Actually people working as "officials" are shiiiit, you will know after you come here

Nine months and you are still patient waiting for this? I don't know about the offer, but you will know after you come here, not a friendly country at all... The way people work is shiiiit,,,,, consider carefully whether it worthwhile to come to a country like this....

Professor in the university said the security check is in process.  When I recently contacted the HR they said the hiring process has been stopped at the admin level. Professor said that the hiring will resume after a while. I am really wondering if the hiring process is really going to take a start again. They did not give me the reason why the process has been stopped neither they said I have been rejected for the position.

Can someone help me??

I've been waiting 10 and 1/2 months for my security check. I have been offered a position at a university in Abu Dhabi as well.

Everyone who works in a government or semi-government institution has to have a security check before being given a formal contract. There is no rhyme or reason that anyone can figure out in relation to the security check. It is arbitrary and mysterious. Some people have received clearance in a couple of days. Most people have to wait for 4 months on average. There is also no one that can help you. You just have to wait. Additionally, established expatriates in the UAE have to go through this as well if they change their place of employment to a government/semi-government institution. Some of them have been denied.

Denials are most often never given explanations.

Sorry for the bad news. I hope yours goes through soon.

**Update**

Another factor that may be at play is Emiratization. The UAE government wants a fully UAE national workforce. This is causing issues for potential expats as well.  It's possible the UAE government is using the security check as a stalling method to force the employer to find an Emirati. This may also be a possible reason why the administration at your university has stopped the hiring process.

It's important to note that potential employees of a government/semi-government entity always go through the employer's HR department for the security check. It's HR that submits everything to the government. In reality, people who say the process is simple aren't involved in the process at all. If an HR representative says the process is simple that individual is lying. All HR can do is submit the application with relevant documents.

Unless you have a relative working for the UAE government in the department that handles the security check (which isn't likely) there is no way you'd be able to find out anything about the process, status of an application, or reason for approval or denial.

I actually lost my hopes on that job and did not even open this blog. Out of curiosity I opened it today and saw your responses. Anyway thanks for the information. Waiting for that job is the biggest mistake I made in my life because of which I had to let go so many other opportunities.

Today, after I posted in this blog, I contacted the professor to know if there is any advancement in the hiring process. He said all the applicants have to pass a screening, which did not happen in my case. This is what I got after waiting for 5-6 months. Any way its a bitter experience in my life...

First they bring you in on a Employment Visa, get medical done, get your residency stamped.  After this you can sponsor your family and bring them over.  Alternatively if your employer is kind enough they can bring you all in at once.  Processing of your visa can be done in a few days, but AD is not as speedy as Dubai.

Just curious, I had interview with the college and now they asking me to attest my degrees from London foreign affairs and UAE embassy there which will cost me around 100 Dollars. They did not made any offer or contract conditions. Without rec them it seems waste of time to me. Is it standard process or not?

Once you are done the interview and they want you then the will ask to get your docs attested.
They can not make an offer without getting some docs "including your attested education docs).
In my case it was part of getting the security clearance . As per my understanding it helped to get my clearance in 5 weeks.
I trust it's worth it.

Make sense. My understanding if you apply for government or semi-gov then it is a prerequisite. Plus you may want to negotiate compensation first.

Hi, How long did it take you to go through government security clearance?

I have seen in online forums that it could be 1 or 2 months. I spoke to the HR person from the company I might be joining in the UAE and she said that for the last couple of months, their (Ministry of Interior) turnaround time has drastically reduced to 8 days - and he also acknowledged that it used to be 1 or 2 months.

It takes only 2 weeks for me

Since I saw there is a forum on this issue I have a leap of hope.
I'm a Pakistani National a resident of kuwait (born and raised) and a frequent traveler to dubai.
infact in 2016 I traveled almost 4 times but since September my visit visa is constantly rejected either applying online or through an agent. latest I know is " CID Clearence not approved" I had to travel to dubai for work purpose every after 3 months.
This is a serious threat to my job and business too, I need an urgent solution and someone with genuine help.
