Do's and don't in Bangkok

Hello everyone,

I'll be traveling to Bangkok with my partner and our 5 year old child on Thursday this week. I don't know much about the place and we are coming from manilla. I'm a 6'1" Japanese American and my partner is Filipino not sure how we will be received there. My plan is to stay around Bangkok for a couple days and take in some sites.

After that I plan on visiting and staying at the sunandhavanaram temple near suphanburi if they will let us stay there for meditation.

Any advice on what to watch out for in Bangkok or Thailand in General?
What would travel expenses be if I was on a tight budget? Would I need a translator?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

its actually easy to get along here, need no translator as long as you know how to read the map :)

You have nothing to worry as some Thai can speak English. They are very helpful. If they dont understand English, they will refer you to a Thai who can speak English.

Thank you everyone. I can't wait to visit. Your country has always been at the top of my list to visit. Very excited to ride my first elephant.
