Guarne is a country town 10 to 20 minutes from Internacional Airport of Rionegro with nice weather and close to many other towns like Santa Elena, Guatape, and Peñol I was visiting my family ovethere for Flowers Festival and was great the food was delicious, the weather was beautiful ( Andes Mountains raining days and sunshine in the same day)  and the People are very friendly  and was safe.  I living in Newark CA for more the 25 años  but I like to spend my vacations time overthere.

Hey y'all, first know that I love the life that I have created after settling here in Colombia (I live in a smallish pueblo 15+ years at the north end of the Aburra/Medellin valley) after 30 years (first extended stay was in Bogota in November of 1990) literally exploring just about every region, department, city, seaside village, the islands off the northern Colombian coast, many of the national parks (Tayrona, Utria, Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza, The Lost City trek, etc.)......................heck just for the sh*t and giggles of it I have driven from my home in Medellin down into Ecuador a number of road trips and explored Ecuador.....................also just on a whim took a drive to Quibdo................

.................I also read both the regional (Antioquia) and national news daily and keep my "ears to the ground" with respects what is really going on both "the good, the bad and the ugly"...............so don't want to "throw a turd into the punch bowl" but I say it like it is..............

.................the Medellin oriente (eg Rionegro) is wrought with crime, assassinations, ingrained corruption, even massacres, so please don't come onto these boards with a rosy picture of something that it's not.

Of course if your not involved in corruption, drugs, money laundering, politics, questionable night entertainment and the like you will probably be ok, stay under the radar but a lovey rosy picture of the movie "It's A Wonderful Life".........NO!

Again I love the life that I created/designed for myself here in Antioquia but also have been blessed with being objective on many topics including the safety realities of living a fulfilling life in Colombia.

It has not been even 2 weeks since my above post about safety in the Rionegro area, well sad to report that just within the past 48 HOURS there have been 5 violent murders in Rionegro area, what is going on?
