House/Flat Renting Requirements

Hi, I was wondering all that would required of me renting a flat/house in Zambia such as proof of income, credit check, references etc.
Is the process the same to that in the states?
I was planning to visit there for a few months and did not plan to work while there. I have my own savings & was hoping that would be sufficient to rent a local flat.

Which is the best internet site to search for the apartment. I mean, I have searched and seen some, i guess it is better to find it in-vivo?
