KSA (and Riyadh especially) are the ideal places in the world to learn how to drive. If you manage driving in Riyadh, there is no other place in the world you won't feel comfortable driving in...

On a sarcastic note I would agree with you but not otherwise. If you learn to drive in this country then, God only can save you and the people coming in your path !!

Acute deficiency of civic sense prevail.
The traffic scene of Pakistan is worst so they want to feel like home away from home. Second are those Masris the decendents of Ferros arogant to level way above then humanity.

Driving in Saudi is absolutely horrendous and extremely dangerous....absolutely no common sense on the roads as anything goes anywhere anytime.

Full Monty

It would be much better if every steering wheel had a six-inch blade sticking out of it..

With a death rate on roads at one every 40 minutes, its fair to say that driving here is dangerous. Stay switched on and assume nothing! People will do the most bizarre things in a motor vehicle.

JUNAIDSURVEYOR

There  are no roles of driving for saudis. Expats, becareful from saudis vichles spacialy which have black screen and drived by young boys.in case of accident expat will be pay all fine in 80% cases.so always give way to saudis while driving on road.

Dude we are struggling with driving and you want to sail ?

TC999

Agree with everything.  There are laws but they are not enforced. Anything can happen.

Here's the nub of the issue; In the west, we grow up having a trike first then maybe a two wheeler with stabilizers. Our mum or dad tinker with a car and drive it dailly with us in it. Then we get the stabilizers off, ride the bike for a few years and move on to maybe a moped before taking driving lessons and getting our first banger. All an education. People here go from camel to Detriot V8. Nothing in between so disaster waiting to happen when he hits the road at 15 in a 5 litre SUV.

Before all those traffic cameras were installed, I have always said that traffic lights in Saudi Arabia were just mere suggestions. It's as if nobody would bat an eye if you ran a red light or for some reason remain stopped while the light is green.

And also, it astounds me that the drivers here doesn't seem to care about the wellness of their cars. I see lowered cars crossing over road islands, I could practically hear the metal getting scratched and I even saw cars driving over tire shredders. Just so weird.

It also terrifies me to be in the streets when I see cars beside ours where the drivers couldn't even reach past the dashboard. Is that a  12 yr old kid driving that hummer?? OMG. I hope they don't get inspired by GTA.

so true!

pioquinto

its dangerous to drive but its too risky to walk..
left hand on mobile while right hand on wheels...
diagonal passing and overtaking on either side of  lanes..
entering exits at least 120kph.. prepare for vehicles cutting fom fast lane direct to service lane
drifting on busy roads.. JFF!
drag race after red signal... honking too much if you're in front!
SUVs driven by 9 yo!
rolled over cars still on parade.. as long as the wheels roll..
driver to insurance ratio: 1/3
vehicle to driver ratio:      3/1
parking area percentage: 500%  on desert hiways
                                          50%   5mins before prayer
                                          0.5%  after prayer

Enjoy your stay.. Drive Defensively!
