Internet! And a big THANK YOU

Post new topic

blumartin

Well at last I finally have my own internet thanks to the nice people from Go, as opposed to the terrible customer service of another rather large company. And it took a whole 20 minutes to buy...

Anyway, now that I can I just wanted to say thanks to all of the really kind people on here who have made me feel very welcome since I have arrived. I know that before I got here I was a little apprehensive about how things were actually going to go because of the lack of real information about how Saudi Arabia is. The best thing I did was make sure I got out and met people... I mean, I can see that some people are even comparing this place to a holiday camp now ;-)

So then campers, what's the next activity? :-)

Welcome to the warm desert sands of Arabia, blumartin. Need to activate the ladies to start cooking the next event. CivEng has planned to hit some white balls around the sand this Friday, as can be seen from his post.

Welcome to the KSA, and I wanna ask you something, how's Go going with you?

Because I hear it's not a good internet service, but it seems to be good with you.

Ramon, :)

Most of these services do have their ups n downs. I am using the STC service for ages now and its excellent. We are four concurrent users from home and very heavy downloads/uploads indeed. Works well. It is possible that the location has something to do with the performance on account of proximity to the nearest transmission tower etc etc? We live in the north of Riyadh in the new town of Hayya Al Falah right next to Imam University.

Welcome bluemartin, and you can count on us to set something up after 2 weeks time...

Concerning GO internet Ramon,
It all depends on where you are. I used to have it in my area and it was great, then after 6 months, it became horrible. But my friend who lived 1km away was getting amazing speed.

I switched to Mobily and it's great. I think STC DSL is amazing, if you have a new phone line. We have the STC WiMax at the office (cause the lines are old), and it goes down a lot of times, and is on a shared IP, so most of our systems can't be accessed remotely, which makes me come in all the time now.

Yes, I tried to sort out STC but they didn't seem to want my money. If the sales is that bad I would hate to see how bad the customer service would be.

The GO package I bought has a maximum speed of 2MB, which I am yet to reach, but it is going fast enough for what I want. I am using Skype etc without any hitches and that's all I really want. Also, the prices were much better - I paid 2520 for 16 months in advance (12 months plus 4 months free). As it's WiMax it also means that I can move somewhere else and take it with me, which is far more convenient than fixed line stuff.

Beezer, we didn't get chance to speak the other day, so maybe next time we will?

Now, let's look at the golf option...

Customer Service has always been extinct in this neck of the sands since the big bang....

Hey blumartin - you didn't really need any intro, you slipped right into the group and seem to be settling in very nicely :top:!  As for the comparison to a holiday camp - well, that's because our view is 'life is a beach'

As for the campers, what's the nexty activity?  - good question!  If anyone can arrange a day or overight trip within Riyadh we would be very interested :D (but not on the 28 Oct).  Until Ian sorts out his visa, we need to stay in Country am afraid :sosad: but at least we can offer lifts to 2 /3 people for any such trip.
