Is it possible to get this over the counter in Bahrain... or do I need to visit a doctor?

If so, do I go to a hospital outpatients or are there things such as GPs in Bahrain?

thanks

You may not be able to get antibiotics over the counter in Bahrain. You'll need to consult a family physician first. All hospitals have GPs. Alternatively, you can visit your local health centre.

True Shutter, it's a recent thing but strange because you can get insulin over the counter but not certain anti biotics

Doubt you'd be able to get it OTC you'd have to consult a doctor and get a prescription as it is antibiotics, but you can always try a pharmacy first, never know!

Amoxycillin is a safe antibiotic and could be obtained OTC in Bahrain and other GCC countries, however doctor advice on any medical condition is recommended, good luck!

thanks for the help guys. Actually, it's Erythromycin I've been recommended. I'll give a pharmacy I know a call later to see if they have it available OTC.

just found out that I'll need a prescription... now to hunt down a doctor!

Hi, antibiotics are not over the counter in Bahrain and need a doctor's prescription. This is to counter the widespread overuse and misuse of antibiotics that leads to antibiotic resistance. No such issues with Insulin.

Also, sleeping pills and narcotic pain killers are also issued only through a 'controlled drug prescription' or a "pink prescription" as I call them.

Please feel free to contact me on medical issues, in hospital or on this forum

Surprisingly, quite a lot of pharmacies sell drugs OTC despite the need of a prescription.  I actually bought amoxi two days ago.  Either go get a prescription or ask at another pharmacy.

I too would try another pharmacy, if the first one refused.

Go see a doctor. As it depends on which bacteria caused the infection. Different medicines accordingly.
