How would you describe life in Honduras?

Has it been complicated to settle down, to find an accommodation and a job?

Is it complicated to make friends in Honduras?

What would you recommend to people who would like to live in Honduras?

Thanks in advance for your participation

Life in Honduras is always challenging but potentially rewarding. Finding accommodation is easy and cheap, finding work is anything but easy and is likely to be badly paid. If you don't have a pension or income finding a job is not likely to be easy. Having said that I am here to seek my fortune, and there are possibilities, eg setting up offshore businesses exploiting the much lower wages here. Making friendships is easy if you speak Spanish but people will perceive you as a gringo, think you are rich etc and it is very hard to break down those assumptions but people here are open and friendly. I'd recommend learning as much Spanish as possible and have a good idea of how you will survive financially if you wish to stay here.

Be Retired with an outside income... Come down w/ money and start a business that is needed.. Work from the internet... Be a certified Dive Instructor..(Roatan) Be a Volunteer with an International organization... OR.. come down with enough money to stay for an extended time and you will find something to do.. Wages are on the Honduran pay scale... You will not make a lot of money.. But maybe find a job in the tourist industry and survive....

Real estate companies here would love for a foreigner to work for them.
But, when you visit or move here you will find many opportunities that you can't believe that nobody is doing !!

Can't wait to move down there!!!!!  I went a month ago, and I already want to go back.  Wishing I could sell my condo in Vancouver and move down there full time.  Workin on it ;)

Nevada,

You will have a nice direct beachfront bungalow built on your property before you know it !!
Just set your goals and make it happen on your beautiful beach lot

I saw an add for Property on the east end out near Camp Bay for land w/ 350 feet of White sand beach for $300.000... That is $750.00 per ft.  And another 1 acre lot w/ ocean view etc. for $50.000.. I am sure their are better deals out there too.. You just have to hunt them out....

Location location location....
There's a few places I know that are very nice but you need to drive 45 minutes down a dirt road (bumpy) and in rainy season 1/2 the time you can't pass.

This is one of the reasons I chose to stick around La Ceiba area with better roads and infrastructure along with the La Ceiba airport being only 10 minutes away.

AHH.. but your on the mainland, w/ no pristine reefs, and no real harbors for cruising boats to stay... Shipyards I know.. But who wants to stay there... You do have more access to supplies then we do here.. certainly.. and cheaper... Ahh, but do you have all the nice water and sndy beaches we have out here in the islands??

I'm promoting an area (La Ceiba). This is where I live and know many people.

I'm sorry if I affended you by giving details out about La Ceiba and not saying Trujillo is the best place in Honduras to invest.
Which obviously I disagree with.

How would you describe life in Honduras?
Different from what you have in your own country, but in a rewarding way

Has it been complicated to settle down, to find an accommodation and a job?
Job would be the most difficult aspect

Is it complicated to make friends in Honduras?
Not really, if you strive to learn spanish you will have even more friends

What would you recommend to people who would like to live in Honduras?
As a foreigner it would be better for you to establish a business to produce income, if you have some contacts you may start up something like a call center, a nice bar, restaurante, real estate, etc

It's also possible to pick up work teaching at one of the schools down here, there are several that hire foreigners to teach the English subjects.  The school where my boys are at, la Luisa Trundle in Coxen Hole, Roatan, is currently looking for teachers for primary grades.  You don't need to have a teaching degree, just have finished high school.  The primary grades go from 7am to noon Mon-Fri, and I think they pay their teachers $400/month, or $300 plus a room to stay in at the school- if anyone wants their contact info, I'll get it for you.  There are other, more expensive schools that pay more.

Socialworker47

Hi, just arrived here in Honduras and I have my master degree in social work, I'm currently looking for a job, and if teaching a possibilty I'm open to exploring that opportunity. Please let me know if you're able to help me out.

Hi socialworker47- you can get in touch with Valerie Nelson, she's a Canadian woman helping out at the school, and is the one recruiting English teachers.  Her number is 2445-3118 and her email is vnelson113@yahoo.com
