Hello guys! I know it's been over a month since people have last posted here, but I am living in Madrid and would like to get to know new people! Also I speak better English than Spanish, so I would prefer people fluent in English. Message me to grab some coffee or something!

Hello to all,   I am looking at possibly moving to Madrid by the end of the year. What are the major things that I should be aware of when I arrive there. I do not speak any language other than English, but plan on enrolling immediately in a Spanish language class upon arrival. I am 59 years old, and of course will not know any one. How hard is it to meet and make new friends in my age group or a little younger. Thanks,  R.N.

Hi! I've just posted a new topic called english speaking bars in Madrid that you may want to check out. I've recomended them to several friends of mine here in Madrid that were looking to improve their english skills. For you guys, however, the basic advantage is that you can meet other foreigners living in Madrid, and also spanish people looking to speak in english!

If anyone want's to go aut to a club or sth sometime in Madrid, I'd be glad to get together or at least suggest a plan! I'm half brit and half spanish but I've lived here most of my life. let me know!

Hi Roger,
Just checking-in a month after your post to see how your plans are progressing.  I am 60 and moved "cold-turkey" from Atlanta to Buenos Aires 3 years ago without knowing a word of Spanish.  Am now in Valencia Spain, continuing my odyssey.  I can offer you three pieces of advice:
1) Go to a large city like Madrid full of English-speaking expats to help your transition;
2) Start NOW taking classes or private lessons in Spanish and think about first spending a month at an intensive "Spanish camp" in Oaxaca Mexico or Guatemala or Ecuador where it's much cheaper than Europe; and
3) Once in Madrid, enroll in a "Spanish for extranjeros" class at a major University as soon as you arrive, in addition to seeking out a good private tutor for 1-on-1 sessions.  I found I had to work twice as hard at learning Spanish than most of my 20-something classmates--it's just not fair!  Also resist enrolling in one of the many private institutes offering Spanish--in my experience the major universities have much better teachers, and are usually half the price.

Anyway best of luck, keep us posted on your progress,

Hi all. My name is Haley, I've just moved to Madrid and I am finding it very hard to meet anyone to socialise with. I work as an au pair only 10 mins away from the centre. I don't speak Spanish but I am learning, but that is difficult as my job is to speak English and the family I live with can speak English. Could anyone give me any advise please, I don't want to go home but it is getting lonely and I am feeling that way

Hola all

emfernandez

Quite hard, at least that's what I am finding . I am 39 and am looking for mature people to enjoy the city with, nice conversation and the lovely things Madid has got to offer.

So, anyway, if you decide to come, give a call and I will be happy to introduce you to this beautiful city.

Best

Eva

Hi. Its Loi here.  When would be the best month to explore Madrid?  Thanks.

JayKayTee

Hi Loi -- I keep hearing Spring and Fall have the nicest weather to visit.  I'm here in Madrid now in Dec.-January and can tell you it's rather cold and rainy.  Although Madrid is absolutely gorgeous this time of year with all of the Christmas festivities and lights, the cold weather does put a damper on things.

Hi Eva-Emfernandez -- If you're still seeking folks to enjoy the city with, nice conversation etc., feel free to give me a shout.  I'm at james dott tusa con geemale dott com and living near Plaza Colón.

Saludos a todos y que tengais felices fiestas!

Hey guys - I'm an American who just moved to Madrid and am looking for someone in their 20's to hang out with! Please let me know of great places to go to meet people. Love the city and am wanting to take full advantage of this experience!

uruka

It is very simple, but the question is what kind person are you interesting to meet up?  Spaniards people are very easy to be a friend.. are very social and always are willing to have a good time in a bar, football or a simple talk over a coffee. :)

shhhh

Hi comeing Madrid in July 2014 for 3weeks trip just want a friend to hangout with and show me around I don't speak much Spanish so someone that is fluent in Spanish and English

Oye gangstas! I'm currently in Madrid from California teaching (of course) and in (dare I say) desparate need of some chillage with some people my age. I'm quite serious about this and am not terribly picky. I  know making connections in Madrid is difficult (e.g. why we are on this page for one...)
Shamefully I've been here for 6 months and have yet to go to the Prado! A coffee, chillin in Retiro, bars and clubs, beer/wine  (100 Montaditos 1 everything Sun/Weds) would be lovely. It seems i spend half of my hours teaching and the other half on the Metro during the week, bleh. Nuff love n respect All! Hit me Up!

FerMUS

Visiting Madrid in August. August 3rd to be precise, and would like to maybe hang out with people in their late 20's or mid 30's that reside in Madrid. I'm fluent Spanish/English and my friend is fluent in English. Preferably someone that speaks English or is fluent in both Spanish/English.

FerMUS

My friend and I will be visiting Madrid in August and would like to meet some people that know Madrid enough to shows around. Not looking for a professional guide, just someone that has been in Madrid for a while. Preferably English and or Spanish/English speakers. We arrive Madrid in August 3rd.

Hi! Still in Madrid looking for friends? I am Spanish, Madrileña de pura cepa. I have been living out of Spain for 5 years and now I miss speaking English and having international friends to learn from ( I already know my culture...). Let me know if you are around here for a coffee. Cheers! K

Hi,
How about booking a greeter? They are volunteers who love their city. Have a look at
madrid.greeters.info or even be a volunteer there yourself.
Also you may find interesting eatwith, a site where you book for lunch or dinner at locals homes.

Bill_fry

One way is also to join language exchange programs where locals meet people from abroad in order to practice their language skills. I think it is called intercambios here in Spain and I visited one that was very nice.
It takes place in Cafe Madrid:
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (Starting at 21:00)
