Salary ideas

Post new topic

Hello fellow Expats,

I am currently planning on moving back to Southeast Asia, to be more precise to Laos..

Now, while searching for a job, I have been asked about my salary expactations, but honestly...I have absolutely no idea where I could start. The internet doesn`t help much in this matter.

I am a 24 year old guy, having 5 years of work experience, and 2/3 of a business administration bachelor.

I have worked for 9 month already in SEA, and beforehand the rest of the time in Germany in a subsidary of an American Corporation.

Job wise, I am looking for a Marketing & Sales Manager or Business Development Manager position.

It would be great to get an idea, on how much I could set as a start for the conversation.

Thank you guys an have a wonderful day

Joe K.

My advice is to get your degree finished asap. You didn't say if you were still in school or not.

As for salary expectations, I would not set the bar very high and jobs in that field will be very difficult to come by. A good idea would be to come with your degree and get a job teaching, which will not be difficult. Then get settled, circulate and meet people and hunt around that way for a job. You should be able to find a job in an international school teaching business/marketing/advertising. I was a flight attendant for 10 years and have a job teaching Travel & Tourism in an int'l school. I love it.

Good advice from Cereal.
Better salaries in teaching. Civil engineers here only get around $1000 a month.
