Thai Embassy in Madagascar

Hey friends.Ìý
A small group of us plan a holiday in southeast Asia this year and some will be travelling on Malagasy passports.Ìý Does anyone here have any experience dealing with the Thai or Indonesian embassies in Madagascar specifically with regard to visa issue procedures for Malagasy passport-holders?Ìý I am struggling to get them to answer emails.
The Indonesian website link to visa services does not work, and the Thai website doesn't really have any info at all, I mean, none, it's blank.
Thanks
Brett
Hi Brett
In 2012 I took my wife and two children, all Malagasy nationals to Bangkok ( I did not convert them to American citizenship back then).Ìý We, my wife and I knew a Malagasy store owner of clothes who used to make the trip to Bangkok every few months to buy clothes...etc.
Since we live in Mahajanga and this woman Patty was going to Tana for business, she took my wife and children's passports to Tana and gave them to a middle man.Ìý He was an excellent middle man that knew all the right connections in the Thai embassy and did this job for years.Ìý Through phone calls with him and questionsÌý asked on the phone he was able to fill in all the paperwork No signature needed, and I believe we paid him through the transfer from bank to bank at that time since orange money was not around if I remember correctly.
Ìý
My wife also sent by Taxi Brosse a few days later a copy of our marriage license and Identity card, heÌý already had the passports in hand from our friend Patty who had gone to Tana.
Ìý Otherwise she would need a copy from the bank of the money she was to carry as did PattyÌý needed a bank certificate of monies carried. Also Patty had a commercial license to buy in Bangkok.Ìý Because my family was traveling with me there was no need for a bank statement as I was the means of support.
Though Air Madagascar was unsure to issue tickets because they wanted to see a bank certificate for monies taken and it had to be explained slowly that it was not needed because I was the means of support.
It was all very easy and one of the few things that went without a hiccup, and when Patty returned from Tana 10 days later we had the Passports with the Visas inside, very fast I thought at the time.Ìý Of course I did not need a Visa being an American nor will you being an Aussie.
When we went to Thailand in May of 2012- we all stood in line, my passport was stamped for the normal 30 days and my wife and kids passed through customs with ease, all smooth with no qustions.
'
Looking at the Passports in front of me now- the cost back then was paid in Ariary 57,000 for each visa.Ìý Visa was good for 3 months--( 90 days) so it will have to be used within those three months that is stamped on the Visa, so timing of the trip can be critical.Ìý The Visa will take up one full page. The visa was issued as reason for entry, Tourist.Ìý We traveled at that time on Air Madagascar.
I hope this fills in some of the blanks.
I am unable to contact Patty any longer for she married a French man and lives in France and I do not have the contact information for the middle man either.
Good luck and bon voyage
Happy new year
Alex
Thanks for the news.Ìý I appreciate the info.Ìý Do you recall, did they want to see tickets out in advance? South Africa wants to see tickets out before they issue a visa.
If I understand your question , No--- tickets were not bought before I got the Visa--Ìý Air MadÌý which we flew with back then, wanted to see the Visa before they issued tickets to my Family.Ìý Thai customs may want toÌý see a return ticket and that depends on the agent and how savvy (or tired)Ìý they are at reading the visitor.
As a side Bar-, I fly Kenya Airways round trip to Bangkok for about 950 usa dollars, economy ----business varies a bit higher depending on availability and timing.Ìý
Another thought I just had is that they may want to see the dates of the airline tickets to figure out when to issue the dates on the visa???? Maybe?
Hi,
Not sure if you are still looking for info since the post is from february.
Anyway, to get a visa for the malagasy citizen, just go to the thai consulate in Ankorondrano Antananarivo, they will issue it in 2 days. It costs 100 000 ar for a 2 months visa.
You will need to provide a ticket with return (just book one if you don't want to buy), a bank statement or proof of fund, and of course, your passport, some id photos and a form that you can fill directly at the consulate.
Pretty easy and straightforward.
