Resignation during probation in Bahrain

Post new topic

I am professional graphic designer. I recently joined a company in Bahrain. They specialise in uniforms. Before I joined, I was told via Skype that if I had an issue then I could always leave. This made me rethink about the company as it gave me security since I don't know what I could offer to them since it's uniforms. They had told me I would be managing their websites and creating app and I was okay with that.

Now, I have been at this company for about exactly 1 month and 8 days. The first day they were really polite and welcoming and this was their behavior until the third day, when I gave them my passport as they requested for it.

I didn't really mind until they started giving me work that I had never done before as I am a animator and I have worked in united States, Kenya, UAE.... My experience was much better in those countries than it was here. In one month, they made me change my work field from graphic designing to fashion designing field where they asked me to create tech packs, scan and print. Take pictures and create advertisement for their Instagram page which I have to handle. Somehow, they got the idea that I can create clothes and all from them yet I create websites and apps.

They have become really rude and treat me like a slum dog. I am currently on probation for 6 months.

My question, how do I resign from this company? I already spoke to them on the 5th July 2018 and they just refused and abused. Even told me that they won't give my passport back. Also, they have asked me to pay back for accommodation they provided at Aradous hotel for which I never asked for as they were supposed to get Me a room and they messed up.

I have gotten a lot of offers from another company and I can join them on mobility. I have done my research and read alot on this topic. I just want to know one answer as I got many answer from negative to positive.

Please assist me as I am really desperate to get out of here. I really can't work like this and it's come to the point I won't mind getting sent back home.

I just want to know how I can resign or if I can even resign while on a 6 months probation?

You can resign without notice if on probation.  Submit a resignation in writing.  If you think employer will create problems then send it via registered mail and retain the pink slip.

No one can keep your passport without your consent.  Go to the police station and file a complaint.  This will get your passport back.

You have worked for your current employer for less than a year.  You can use mobility BUT only if they agree.  Otherwise, have them cancel your visa and then a new employer can sponsor you for a fresh one.   Mobility without employer consent is not available for you.

Thank you for your reply. You have given me a huge boost of support. I did give him a resignation and rejected it.

I will ask them to cancel my visa as I know they will never give me mobility.

If you have any contacts in ministry of labour kindly let me know so I can contact them as my employer doesn't even know the labour and claims that LMRA has nothing to do and his visa cost won't be refunded

I have contacts but these are corporate contacts not personal.   But MOL is approachable for complaints - you can go there and they WILL entertain you even without any contacts.

His visa costs won't be refunded but that is the way it should be.  Employers cannot pass on these costs to the employee - it is the law. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.  And holding passport is illegal - file a complaint with the police immediately so that they call him.  Let him feel the pressure for once.

Ok I will follow the way you told me too. Will update on what happens!

Apologies to jump in into this thread, but I have a brief question:
What is the notice period for resignation? That is when there are no disputes/issues with the employer.

Thanks! 30 days it is then!

Unless you have agreed otherwise in your contract.

Nope, the contract says "in compliance with local laws"
