Any information on banks in Honduras that can be opened with a US Passport.  Thinking of relocating there.  Any info would be appreciated.

CesarLaCeiba

Hello Karl, banks here change policies very often. Best one to use right now is Davivienda, they used to be HSBC bank in Honduras. You can open your account right away. Other banks will not let you draw money for a few weeks or even months if it is in dollars.

I can understand a few days to hold your money, but a month why?  Are there any banks that allow for US pension direct deposits with a Honduran Debit card or withdraw?

CesarLaCeiba

Sure, they do. Why a month? stupid policies trying to take advantage of you. Good thing is that not all banks do that. Go to Davivienda and everything is going to be ok. If you bring cashiers checks to open the account it will take two weeks, if you open it with cash it will be immediate, do not bring 20 dollar bills, they will be of no use here cause of the laundry laws.  Once you open an account everything else should be smooth. You can wire money from anywhere in the world and it should be in your account in two days.
