1st damage in my town (Not my solar panels)
Bit windy lol - @SimCityAT
More windy than here for sure. No wind whatsoever! It's rainy though.
8.30am update: wind has picked up to 4 m/s and there's a bit of sleet
It is still bloody freezing, I sometimes wonder why Expats bother coming to live here!
Seriously, it's a lovely place to live and living in the offers significant benefits in terms of weather protection.
Anyway, I have to go and de-ice the car for the wife, so have a great day everybody.

We've got improving weather here. It's only 3C and wind at 5 m/s but it's getting brighter and looking drier than before. It sounds good for doggy walking but it'll be muddy I expect so better get the decent boots out. Need to get on with it as I'm planning on making cottage pie for this evening.
Well I survived the night, no windows put through or tiles missing. But we have a election coming so A frames advertising the parties have been blown around the town.
That reminds me, not had any freebies from the parties yet. Maybe I will get stuff in the coming week.
My daughter had a burst pipe last night. Nothing to do with the weather, just appalling workmanship by whoever built their house. It's a new-build and plumbing fittings really should last longer than a couple of years. It had happened before, the repair then, was they just reconnected the failed connection, luckily, my son-in-law subsequently fitted a water leak detector, and this went off immediately, so this time when the same joint failed and the whole water supply began to flood into their house, they were able to switch off the mains within a few seconds.
@Cynic
I don't think they build houses like they used to and the fittings are the cheapest possible.

You're probably right mate.

UK houses are appallingly made.  I had a new house there once and the windows didn't close and the room heights were right on legal requirements. It was absurd. We had no space and everything felt cramped. Glad to get shot of it. It's belt and braces here - solid concrete with brick infill. Galvanised steel plumbing, not copper. Never going to break even with ice in it. Where it matters usually. Or heavy duty plastic where unexposed. We do not have waste pipes on the outside of houses - never freeze up.

It looks like my post is attributed to you now. It's a bit strange.
1C today, forecasting 7 > 9C over next week. Perhaps this will finish off the little bits of snow that are still lurking in my garden. I don't like the cold, it aggravates the pain issues I have. Here's looking forward to Spring.

We've had some overnight snow. It's only 2C and the wind is quite high at 3 m/s. The snow was light so it's blown away and the sun has been on it so it's melted a bit.  The chill factor means it feels like -1C.  I'm really wondering about if I should take the Fluffymeisterin (doggy) out or not. Mrs F is not keen on being frozen.  Can I really face the chill? And my hip is playing up. It gets better if I walk so there's an upside.Â
On the other hand, weatherwise, in fairly typical Eastern Europe fashion, it's more or less sunny. We always get these cold periods with blue skies although today it's a bit patchy. If I stick to the forest, the wind should be minimised. Still needs a furry coat, ski gloves and a hat that goes over your ears. This kind of weather does dry out the ground so it's not as muddy as it could be. It's a sort of desiccating action. Like freeze drying.

Big snow this morning - perhaps 2cm. Cold at -2C and no wind. The snow is sticking too.
No dog walking but plenty of shovelling and brushing while it's still fresh powder.
All the roads are blocked. The authorities have been caught on the hop.
Might have to break out the 4WD.
-8°C last night, weather forecast says we shall have snow showers. We shall see. It tried snowing the other day but nothing came of it.
Now it's 4°C
8c here in North Yorkshire at the moment, with a high of 11C this afternoon. Nice after the previous fortnights low temps. Long Range forecast is hinting at the return of snow at the end of the month; hopefully that doesn't happen.
1300h CET
Tad under 0C.  Slight breeze from WNW at between 0 and 1 m/s. Chill factor about -1C.  Pressure steady at 1023 HPa.Â
Foggy in the distance and no view of the surrounding hills. Some of the snow has melted but much remains. Â
Sunrise 07.26h and Sunset 16.21h today. We're gaining about 2 minutes per day. That said, it's a long way to summer time.
Too rubbish for dog walking. It'll be too muddy and slippery.
It was chilly first thing, we had to de-ice the car, so the wife could go to work. Right now it's 8C, but feels like 13C in the sun, not much wind today; there's a chance of snow this weekend, then the rest of the month looks pretty good.
Sunday 19th January 11.20am
Really cold, -3.3C, sprinkling of snow overnight, cloudy and foggy.Â
Generally rubbish for doing much.
Even the dog doesn't like the look of outside.
Sunrise 07.24h, sunset 16.26h - getting better all the time. Won't be long before we're out of Mordor.
-2°C here, it's Sunday so lazy day. Quite foggy out there. Gonna burry myself underneath a blanket and scroll through Netflix and see what I've missed.

Good plan. We're going on the "short walk" today with the Furrymeisterin leading the way. She's always up for a walk.  To her, we're on patrol.
Last time there was plenty of evidence of wild pigs rooting through the snow for food.  They are dangerous but I've never actually seen one. Seen plenty of deer though, including some pretty large ones. Only see foxes at night. Some evidence of Spring activity. I heard woodpeckers a few days ago.
I've run out of TV shows.  Silo - Season 2 - ended. The only thing which is new is Season 2 of Severance. But they aren't Netflix. They are Apple TV so needs a download if no subscription.
I watched Skyscraper on Netflix the other day.  Worth a look as loads of special effects but a strange kind of Chinese/Hong Kong movie. It was absurd. It was a kind of Asian "Die Hard" but with The Rock. Nothing to write home about.
Weather up here in North Yorkshire is a bit weird atm and further proof if anybody needs it of how Climate Change is affecting our day to day weather. Currently, 1C here, but with a cold southerly wind is like -1C. Forecasting 10/11C for Mon, Tue and Wed (which is weird), then back to normal 3/4C, with a few warmer days, then snow for next weekend. We'll see how it goes.
We just turned on the heat, 18C inside.
Usually that is about the mid temp to turn on the heat inside. I lost a few lbs last week so best to stay warm I suppose. I need more insolation!
I am in the middle of a workout so I could wait to heat the place up till later .
We do not heat at night once we go to sleep.
It is rare when we do.
Not even thinking of going out today, too chilly.
IDK how my sisters do it in Minn. I suppose this is spring weather for them.
Going to make some goulash later , that should do the trick;

Last time I saw a wild pig in the snow it was attacking a Chieftain tank, probably because the tank commander put 24 volts down the D10 phone line the pig was chewing up at the back of the tank.

There are loads of wild pigs here but it's not like there's visible pigs on every street corner.  We do see wild game on the menu of restaurants. In fact, we just saw that on a board while we were walking the doggy. I was watching a TV show on YT (Frozen Gold) set in Greenland and they were having reindeer steaks. It looked really nice and juicy.  I've had antelope in Africa and it was tough. But over there in Greenland, you need that kind of meat diet as you'd be burning calories like no tomorrow.
Surely 24V isn't likely to give that much of shock. I reckon more like 120V is going to p*** off any wild animal. Forget the ring voltage on phones but it's quite substantial.Â

Field telephones put 50v down the line when in ring mode; we watched the pig snuffle it's way up to the tank, then it ran into the phone wire which ran across a field to the Infantry CP, the phone line then did what they always did, get tangled up with whoever was in its vicinity, it went down hill from there; we had to pause the exercise while we disentangled the pig from the rear track sprocket of the tank. I had to go before it was sorted, I had a train to run.
Back on topic - currently 1C and overcast; now forecasting rain later this afternoon with a high of 4C. Snow warning for this weekend has now changed to rain and 10C - makes me wonder why they bother.

Ah yes, 50V will hurt quite a bit. Not enough to kill if low amps (<30mA) but will annoy anyone or anything touch it. Â
Do you know what happened to the pig? Was it bacon sandwiches or BBQ pork all week?

We've had a dump of snow this morning. Around 3cm. I was out there brushing the snow off the cars and it was just coming down and undoing all my work. My weather station doesn't measure snowfall as it's not rain.Â
Currently it's -3C, no wind, steady pressure, sunrise 0723h and sunset 1627h.Â
It's supposed to be 10C here at the weekend too so all the snow will be well and truly gone if that happens.
